A LIVELY LOCAL LUNCHING SPOT ON THIRD STREET PROMENADE
KCRW’s Garth Trinidad to Host First Picnic that Features Seating, Shade, and Live Music Each Friday at Arizona and Third St.
SANTA MONICA (May 9, 2014) – Enjoy a cubicle-free lunch where the active ingredients are sunlight, sea breeze, a vibrant scene, and live KCRW music! Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. introduces Picnic on the Promenade, a patio that pops on Third Street Promenade Fridays beginning May 16 through the summer. From noon to 3:00 p.m. at the corner of Arizona and Third Street in Santa Monica, picnic tables and umbrellas spring up to create a lively outdoor lunching area for Downtown Santa Monica residents and workers wanting to break free from their computers and cubicles. Picnic-goers are welcome to bring their own food, or grab-and-go from their favorite Third Street Promenade eateries. It’s free, and it’s here for the summer to help celebrate Third Street Promenade’s 25th Anniversary.
To provide a soundtrack to this scene, Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. has partnered with locally produced NPR affiliate KCRW. To launch the inaugural May 16 Picnic, station DJ Garth Trinidad will spin his signature progressive world rhythm for picnic-goers. Chris Douridas will take the turntables on June 13th, and Raul Campos will lay down the Friday funk on August 8.
