POLAHS Scholarship Fund 2014
March 18, 2014
ANNALISSIA CONSTANTINO – Class of 2014
I came to POLAHS because I want to go to college. My parents are from the Phillipines, and attending college was not a possibility for them. I knew the teachers here would support me. They helped me take the right classes and find an internship at the Torrance court-house, where I learned just how much I want to go to law school. With a scholarship from a POLAHS donor, I’ll study Political Science at my dream school… Penn State.
CESAR GUERRERO – Class of 2014
My goal is to be a computer engineer. Going to college at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) or Cal Poly San Luis Obispo depends on the nancial aid and scholarships I earn. My family can’t help with my tuition. At POLAHS I’ve participated in the Math Club and Science Olympiad, and I have a 4.3 GPA. I recently passed all six of my Advanced Placement tests, which means I’ll start college with a semester’s worth of credits already completed. My tuition will be lower because of my hard work.
STEPHANIE GOMEZ – Class of 2014
I’m the first person in my family to go to college, and I want a Master’s degree too. Last year my teachers selected me for a competitive Boeing internship. My mentors encouraged me to pursue the field. These women engineers were an inspiration! I was accepted into the honors engineering programs at Arcadia University, Northern Arizona University, and Willamette University. All three colleges offered me partial merit scholarships that cover about half of my tuition. It’s because of POLAHS that I’ve made it this far.
Dear Friends of POLAHS,
I’m humbled by the number of people who share our passion for helping students. We have increased our scholarship fund every single year because of you. In 2013 we awarded over $95,000 to our incredibly hard-working graduates. This year, our goal is even greater.
College tuition costs continue to rise. And the achievement gap between low and high income students continues to grow in California. Over 70% of our graduates will be the first in their family to go to college, but they can't afford to take this important next step. You can help.
With your scholarship donation, our students can:
  • Enroll in college, and with fewer debts
  • Have flexibility to choose the college that fits with their academic and personal goals
  • Reduce their work hours and spend greater time focusing on their studies

  • As a sponsor, you will be invited to our Scholarship Awards Banquet on May 27th to personally present your scholarship. Your generosity will also be recognized in a newspaper ad, newsletter, event program, and on our website.
I hope you will support one of our deserving students by making a scholarship donation!
