GIRLS XC FINISHES GREAT 2024 SEASON!
THIRD AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS!
This weekend the Mason Girls XU Team had the honor of competing at the OHSAA State Championships for the 20th time in the past 21 seasons. A remarkable achievement and a tremendous historic accomplishment. The Comets were seeking their 4th state title after finishing 3rd overall in 2023.
After the boys lit it up on the course, the girls took their turn and fared quite well. The girls were predicted to be anywhere from 5th - 7th and they placed a very respectable 3rd place overall in the team scoring.
The team ran very well and was in the mix for 2nd at one point during the race. The race got out fast, and they put themselves in the thick of it. Efa Paschka, Atalia Hawkins, and Addi Stephens were right up front at the 500m mark and with Auna Koro and Eva Mathur running side-by-side not far behind, we had a nice spot to start the race.
At the mile mark, they scored the race and we were sitting 2nd place overall, just behind the Hillard Davidson girls, but Lancaster (race favorite) was charging hard! The girls fought hard in mile 2 and hung on, with Lancaster slipping past them.
A few teams gave us a scare in the final meters, but we held our position and took 3rd overall in the contest.
The ladies were led by Efa and Atalia, who both were "All Ohio," with Addi just behind. Auna and Eva had great days on the course and huge personal best times, scoring our final two spots. Tessa Palmer and Emily Moran ran tough in this stacked field and did their part for the team as well.
This is the sixth time the girls' program has come in third place, and although it was a bit tough to swallow just missing the podium again, it was a good bit better than might have been predicted weeks ago.
Overall, it was a great day on the course and a strong finish for this team of seven talented ladies. The team had great support from their teammates and fans, and the coaches and team could not be more grateful for their encouragement.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE COACHES AND ATHLETES ON ANOTHER GREAT SEASON!

MASON FB SEASON CONCLUDES IN PLAYOFFS
COMETS FALL TO ELDER
Elder High School football team put on a dominant display last Friday night as they defeated the Mason Comets 28-3 at the storied Pit in Cincinnati. This victory propels the Panthers into the second round of the Ohio High School Division 1, Region 4 playoffs and brings to a close the Comet Football season with an overall record of 5-6 and 5-4 in the always-tough GMC. Elder goes on to meet Lakota West in the next round.
The Elder defense stifled the Mason offense limiting them to just 88 yards in the first half. The Panthers' defense forced Mason into difficult situations, consistently pressuring quarterback Ashton Schaef and shutting down the Comets' running game.
Mason's only points came from a 26-yard field goal by Max Gogol in the waning moments of the first half.
Mason finishes their 2024 season t 5-6 overall and 5-4 in the GMC (5th).

GIRLS SOCCER REGIONAL RUNNER-UP
COMETS FALL TO SETON TO END SEASON
Mason Girls Soccer completed their outstanding 2024 season on Saturday in the Regional Final at Lakota East. The Comets played their hearts out but fell just a little short, losing to now 3X Regional Champion Seton by a final score of 1-0.
The Saints and Comets were evenly matched through the first 50 minutes before a senior striker found the back of the net off a great through ball. Seton limited Mason's opportunities from that point on as the offense couldn't achieve an offensive equalizer.
The Mason defense behind keeper Anneliese Knight was outstanding on the day limiting and shutting down many of the Saints' high-powered offense efforts.
Mason ends the season as Regional Runner-Up with a final record of 14-5-2 and 7-1-1 in the GMC.

GIRLS VB REGIONAL RUNNER-UP
COMETS END SEASON WITH LOSS TO SETON
Mason Volleyball saw their amazing 2024 season end on Saturday in the Regional Final and Lakota West. The Comets defeated powerful Seton in the first game igniting the squad for a potential upset. But the Saints were able to come back with three straight wins to advance to state (25-21, 20-25, 15-25, 17-25).
The Comets came out swinging to win the first set behind five kills and two blocks from Katie Helmes and three kills and two blocks from Avery Renners. They used a six-point run to gain control in that set and appeared to have the Saints on the ropes after taking a 17-14 lead in the second set.
"We had a game plan. It worked. The kids were playing great, a lot of energy," Mason head coach Eric Schatzle said.
Seton rallied to win the second set, controlled the third set and pulled out a tough fourth set to claim the regional title.
It was an incredible, historic season with a hard-working, fun group of Comet athletes who finished as Regional-Runnerup, District, and GMC Champions. The Comet's final record was 19-7 overall and an incredible 9-0 in the GMC for the ninth consecutive season.
Congratulations to the coaches and players on another GREAT SEASON of Mason Girls Volleyball.
