BOY'S GOLF 4th AT WATTERSON INVITE
On Saturday, September 23, the Comets traveled to Clover Valley Golf Club north of Columbus to compete in the 22-team Columbus Bishop Watterson Invitational tournament. Mason finished the day in 4th place among the 22 teams with two individuals tying for 4th place individually in the 110-player field. Juniors Ben Morneau and Thomas Niere each shot scores of even-par 72 to lead the Comets, and Mason finished with a team total score of 309.
It was another wild day on the golf course for Mason Varsity Green, as Junior Blake Lockhart was even par through his first 5 holes with 5 different scores on those holes. He opened with an eagle (holing out from 115 yards away in the fairway), and then followed that score with a par, a double bogey, a birdie, and a bogey - the same score as if he had made pars on the first 5 holes. Later in the morning, Ben Morneau holed out from 124 yards away on a par 4 for a score of 2 and another Comets' eagle. Steady play took Ben the rest of the way to the clubhouse at even par, and Thomas tied him with a smooth round of 72 also. Senior JB Lang scored 82 for the Comets' 3rd-best score, and Senior James Tran rounded out the scoring with an 83.
The Varsity Boys Green Golf team has two competitions scheduled this week. On Tuesday 9/26, an internal match against Mason White - the teams' Senior Night - will take place at Shaker Run Golf Club at 4:30 pm. And on Wednesday 9/27, the top 6 players for the team will take on Moeller in an 18-hole scrimmage match at Glenview Golf Course.
The Southwest Boys Sectional is slated for Thursday, Oct. 5th at Glenview. Four teams per sectional, & 4 individuals with low scores will qualify for District.
