BSC Alumni in Landmark Supreme Court Case
On Tuesday, Oct. 4, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Merrill v. Milligan, a case about whether Alabama’s recently enacted congressional map violates Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA). Did you know the case has two BSC connections? While Merrill refers to Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill, Milligan refers to Evan Milligan ’03, executive director of Alabama Forward, a statewide civic engagement table advancing efforts of nonpartisan organizations to expand the voter base, protect voting rights, and increase the accessibility of election systems. Arguing the state's case was Edmund LaCour '07, who was appointed Solicitor General of Alabama in May 2019. Milligan appeared on CBS Mornings earlier this week
