BOYS XC WINS 9TH REGIONAL TITLE
ON TO STATE SATURDAY!
The Mason Boys Cross Country Team earned a berth in the state championships by winning an extremely competitive regional title on Saturday.
For Mason Boy's XC this was their 9th Regional Title as the Comets defended their 2023 championship.
Running along the Great Miami River and on the levee at Troy, Ohio, the Comets turned the table on Little Miami from the week before, taking down the Panthers and the rest of the field by a scant 5 points, 83 to 88. This was the most competitive regional championship in recent memory as all five qualifying teams finished within 18 points of each other.
As he has all season, Junior Caden Winship led the way for the Comets with a scintillating 6th-place finish. He was followed by Senior Jason Xu in 15th place and Junior Luke Berkebile in 18th place. Sophomore Eligh Amshoff ran his best race of the season to finish in 23rd place. Senior Max Greco rounded out the scoring for the Comets with a fine 28th place. Sophomore Paras Yadav and Senior Will Buckalew rounded out the scoring for the Comets.
Mason will compete in its 18th consecutive state championship next Saturday at Fortress Obetz in Obetz, Ohio.
The Comets have won state titles in 2022, 2021, 2014, and 2008. Mason Boys were state runner-up in 2023.

GIRLS XC REGIONAL RUNNER-UP!
ON TO STATE THIS SATURDAY!
This past Saturday the Girl's XC team laced up for the regional meet in Troy Ohio and it was a close one. The team to beat was Lakota West, and Milford with Talawanda looked tough. The Comets weathered some storms with injuries this week but persevered and were strong.
The girls put up a good fight for first, but Talwanda ran lights out, and somehow got by us in the last mile. We were able to take down West and Milford, but the Braves just had a perfect day and it was hard to answer.
This marks Mason Girl's first 2nd place trophy in many years, and our 12th time on the regional podium overall. The Comets have qualified for state 20 times in the past 21 years.
The race got out hot as it always does, and the girls were up for the challenge. Efa led the way with a 5th place overall finish, with Addi and Atalia not too far behind in 9th and 10th respectively.
The race for the trophy came in later with the Mason girls going toe-to-toe with West, Talawanda, and Milford for those last few scoring slots.
Next up for the Comets with a great performance was Eva Mathur, the freshman, who ran great after a long week on the shelf. Auna Koro.... as we call her, was solid after a 2-week hiatus, filling in the 5 spot. After Auna crossed the line, Emily and Tessa did their part for the team and helped secure the runner-up trophy.
The girls are running well, and look poised to be in the mix at the state meet next week at Fortress Obetz.
The Comets were State Champions in 2022, 2013, and 2012. Mason Girls were 3rd at the state meet in 2023.

Mason, the #10th seed, 1st round opponent will be Elder (#7) on Friday, Nov. 1st, at 7:00 PM at the Pit. The Panthers (8-2) lost to Lasalle last Friday night 35-24.
