BOYS GOLF
BOYS GOLF FINISHED 3RD AT GMC
On Tuesday and Wednesday, September 9th & 10th, the Boys Golfers competed in the Greater Miami Conference Tournament, a 36-hole "winner take all" event. The team winners of the tournament are the league champions for the entire season, regardless of the results of any other matches or tournaments.  Mason was the defending champion team in the event, and they made an excellent effort to win the title for a second consecutive year. Still, Lakota West pulled away slowly throughout the tournament.  West increased their lead over eventual 2nd place finishers Lakota East and 3rd place Mason in every one of the four rounds of the tournament.  Mason rallied early on the final day to surge ahead of Lakota East and begin to challenge Lakota West for the top position, but too many loose shots got away from the Comets on the final 9 holes of Day 2.

Mason was led by our #1 player and senior star Curtis Crimmins.  Curtis followed up a solid 73 on day 1 with a phenomenal round of 68 (-4) on day 2 that included EIGHT BIRDIES!  Curtis finished at 141 (-3) total for the two days and was only 4 shots away from earning GMC Player of the Year Honors.  Other players who also earned first-team all-GMC Honors in addition to Curtis were junior Jack Hellman (159), junior Josh Morneau (158), and junior Jaxson Hutzelman (160).  Earning second-team all-GMC honors were senior Alex Chamberlain (164) and sophomore Diego Orozco (166).  The Comets have one more tournament this Sunday afternoon at Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Course before competing in the Sectional at the same golf course on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Results of the GMC season - including the all-conference teams, Coach of the Year, and the Steve Schuck Sportsmanship Award winner from each of the 10 teams - will soon be posted on the conference's website www.gmcsports.com. Complete results of the GMC tourney are on https://www.baumspage.com/golf/gevent.php?peventID=16&table=C

Next for Mason Boys Golf is the GCGA Invite at Whitewater on Sunday, 9/14.
