 October 24  Worship in the Chapel
7:30 p.m. Tonight | Yeilding Chapel | Join us for a "Holy Pause" as we make time to be still and reconnect. Chaplain Julie Holly will teach from the Book of Mark this week. Worship is student-led and all are invited! Check out our podcast wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.

 October 27   Guest Speaker: Lisa McNair
11 a.m.-Noon Thursday | Norton Theatre | Lisa McNair, author, civil rights speaker, and the sister of Denise McNair, who was killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in 1963, will speak. Lunch will follow in the Executive Dining Room, Noon-1 p.m. (students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend).

 October 27  Chili Cook-Off
6 p.m. Thurs. | Julie's House | Sign up here to bring chili for Religious Life's Chili Cook-Off. Taste testers needed, too. We'll have a costume contest, s'mores, and a good time guaranteed. Email Julie Holly at for the address.
 October 29  Weekend Traffic Alert
The Magic City Classic between Alabama A&M and Alabama State University will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at nearby Legion Field. Traffic surrounding campus will be highly congested that day and evening. While there may be limited access to and from campus from the Bruno Entrance, the gate below the lake (12th Street) will be open and staffed throughout the day until traffic has normalized. Unless necessary, it is best not to leave campus during the day. If you leave, display BSC placards. Birmingham Police will assist campus traffic. The placards can be obtained at the CPD Office (270 Student Services) or the main gate, or download and print here. Click here to download a map of an alternate route to campus. Questions?  October 31  Halloween on the Hilltop
4-6 p.m. Monday |  Academic Quad | Since 1996, BSC has provided a safe and fun Halloween experience for our neighbors beyond campus. Student organizations and academic departments provide games and activities for local children to participate in, as well as candy to hand out to them. Student Development will supply additional candy, inflatables, and small costume pieces. Student Development will supply tables to organizations on a first come-first serve basis. In the event of rain on Oct. 31, the event will become a drive through trick-or-treat event. To sign up your organization or department for this event, please fill out this form.

The Office of Admission is excited to hire ’Southern Ambassadors for the 2023 spring and fall terms! We are seeking BSC's best and brightest students who are passionate about their BSC experience and are excited to share it with future generations of BSC students. Volunteers Needed for Cross Country Championship

Career Peers
We are excited to introduce you to BSC's first ever Career Peers - Julia Scarinci and Nathan Benko. They will be available to all students via office hours each week to go over resumes, cover letters, personal statements, and to discuss internships and study abroad. E-Term Project Changes
There have been several changes to E-Term project offerings since the bulletin was printed. Self-Service is always up to date as is the online version of the bulletin. Contracts for individualized E-Term projects should be submitted by Nov. 2, though early submissions are welcome! Please contact the Krulak Institute,, if you have any questions.
Sponsored external scholarships for study or internships abroad
Critical Language Scholarship - for students interested in studying critical languages (beginner to advanced levels) Deadline: mid-November.
Fund for Education Abroad - open to students with US citizenship, DACA, permanent residency (preference for students with high financial need and underrepresented in study abroad) Deadline - early January.

Independent Study Contract Changes

Submit contracts for individualized study on Engage by Nov. 2. Use the Academic Contract Proposal Worksheet to draft the contract. Flu and Bivalent Covid Booster Shots
Cahaba Medical Care will provide flu and Covid booster shots in Health Services Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 25 - 26. Walk in between 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:15 p.m. both days. Flu shots are FREE with insurance. Without insurance the cost is $15. The cost of bivalent Covid boosters are covered by the Federal Government. You can get both at the same time. Questions? Email

Graphic Design Blackout Dates
Communications will be in production on ’Southern Magazine Oct. 25 - Nov. 12. Requests received through Nov. 12 will be considered for production after Nov. 12. Request projects here.

Web Design Blackout Dates
Website design projects will be placed on hold beginning Nov. 7 through the end of the year. Only simple updates to text or photos will be made.
