COMETS WIN 4TH STRAIGHT DISTRICT TITLE
HANLEY TOSSES NO-NO VS. TROJANS!
Mason senior Jacob Hanley put the Comets on his back at the District Title game on Thursday. Hanley pitched a no-hitter and bombed two home runs while driving in two as Mason defeated the Troy Trojans 5-0 at Centerville.
For the Mason Baseball program, it was their 4th consecutive Southwest District Championship and 15th overall.
Mason got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jacob Hanley homered to center field, and Anthony Sulek singled, each scoring one run.
The Comets added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Jacob Hanley homered to right field, and Anthony Sulek hit into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.
Jacob Hanley, an Indiana University signee, gave up zero hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking two.
Mason batters had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Drew Stevens and Mark Rutherford led the team with two walks each. Anthony Sulek stole two bases.
The Comets (24-6) advance now to the Regional Sweet 16 where they will play Elder who defeated Centerville 13-2 to advance. The Comets fell to the Panthers 5-2 in the 2023 Regional Semi-Final and will be looking for a different outcome when the two teams battle at Miami University on Thursday, 5/30, 6:00 pm at Hayden Field.
The winner will play on Friday, 5/31, back at Miami University for a State Final Four berth against either #1 Moeller or Vandalia Butler.
