As we transition to November, harvest is reaching the finish line. Favorable conditions have helped get crops out of the field ahead of schedule compared to the last five years. Early planted cover crops benefitted from timely rains; however, the current drought conditions have slowed cover crop and hay field growth. Rain is forecasted for the last days of October and first week of November, which should help the rainfall deficit. Have a great Thanksgiving!
There is still time to soil sample! After harvest, consider taking routine soil samples to help with nutrient management planning. Questions about soil sampling? Reach out and ask!

These photos are from a research trial on a farm in Juneau County. Extension is comparing a novel cover crop, winter camelina, to winter rye planted after soybean and before corn. We are examining the yield impact to corn and nitrate leaching potential of each cover crop. A great example of on-farm research!
