I'm excited to announce that Dr. Nigamanth Sridhar has agreed to serve as Interim Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs. He will begin on May 9.
Dr. Sridhar is no stranger to CSU; in fact, he's been on our faculty since 2004. He has been on leave from the university since April 2020, when he began serving the National Science Foundation as Program Director in the Directorate for Education and Human Resources. He has worked on the CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service program, which is the federal government’s primary program to train the future cybersecurity workforce for the nation. In addition to cybersecurity education, he also works on two programs that support research in promoting inclusion and diversity in STEM education and workforce development, with a specific goal of dismantling systemic racism in STEM education settings.
From 2017-2020, Dr. Sridhar was Dean of CSU's College of Graduate Studies, and prior to that, he was professor of computer science in our Washkewicz College of Engineering. He taught courses to CSU students in a variety of subfields of computer science and software engineering and led a number of research programs on the development of connected devices and the comprehensive design and integration of computer instruction in K-12 schools.
Dr. Sridhar is deeply committed to CSU and to Cleveland. He is a 2019 graduate of Leadership Cleveland, and in June 2021, former Cleveland mayor Frank Jackson appointed him to the Board of Education of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Urban Community School and on the Regional Leadership Board at GCP RITE, which is part of the tech talent arm of the Greater Cleveland Partnership.
Dr. Sridhar is happy to return to Cleveland State. He shared that, "CSU is, and has always been, my home. The institution, its faculty, staff and most importantly, its students are close to my heart. I am incredibly delighted, excited, honored and humbled, to be able to come back from my leave into this leadership role at CSU. I look forward to working with the faculty and staff as well as President Bloomberg and our leadership team as we look forward to the opportunities that exist for the university."
Dr. Sridhar will join us for our commencement ceremonies on May 14. Both he and I are so pleased to work with the remarkable academic affairs team we have at this institution. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Sridhar to this leadership role at CSU!
