Since its founding more than a century ago, Hebrew College has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of Jewish life. As the College looks ahead to its next chapter, it is welcoming four new members to its Board of Trustees whose professional and communal leadership reflects a shared commitment to building strong organizations and vibrant Jewish communities. Joining the Board this year are Kenneth Barron, Diana Lloyd, Rabbi Jessica Lowenthal, and Rebecca Voorwinde. This Fall, Hebrew College is launching two new graduate certificates in Tefillah Leadership, preparing a new generation of prayer leaders to cultivate dynamic, living prayer in Jewish communities. Designed for emerging and experienced prayer leaders, each of the two-year programs combines deep exploration of Jewish liturgy and musical traditions with practical and spiritual training in the skills of prayer leadership. Led by Hebrew College Rosh Tefillah and Artist-in-Residence Rabbi Jessica Kate Meyer, RS `14, the certificates bring together Hebrew College faculty and masters of Jewish prayer traditions from the Boston area and beyond. These in-person programs are open to rabbinical students, alumni, lay leaders, professional clergy, and musicians of Jewish traditions.

We are in the home stretch this week in many ways. In the Torah reading cycle, Parshat Ki Teitzei turns the corner into the final half of the final book of the Torah. We read the fifth of the seven haftarot of consolation, marking only three weeks until the start of the new Jewish year. We are a full week into the final month of the year, Elul, with its daily Shofar blowing, reminding us that Rosh Hashanah is nearly here and the time has come to investigate our souls. And for those of us on an academic schedule, teachers, students and parents, the summer is waning as the school year begins. As we prepare to launch ourselves into these new beginnings, the Torah reminds us repeatedly to remember.

This fall, Hebrew College’s new exhibition, Psalm 27: A Dialogue with Text and Art, features pieces from eighteen artists working across painting, photography, sculpture, mosaic, printmaking, and mixed media. This is the Hebrew College Art Initiative’s first invitational exhibit, curating works from a variety of artists. Rather than seeking a definitive interpretation, the exhibition embraces the diversity of encounters inspired by sacred text. Together, the collection presents a remarkable range of creative responses inspired by a single biblical poem. Each artist brings a distinct visual language, aesthetic practice, and spiritual perspective to the psalm, creating works that stand on their own while participating in a larger conversation. “Each artist encounters Psalm 27 in their own unique way,” says Hebrew College Arts Committee Chair and contributing artist Deborah Feinstein. “It is a broad, enveloping exhibition.”

Exhibit Dates: September 9-December 18, 2026.
