We have partnered with Aetna Student Health and LewerMark Student Insurance to provide student health insurance to all full-time undergraduate, full-time graduate, and all law students for the 2024–2025 academic year. Students are automatically enrolled in this health insurance plan and must provide proof of comparable, existing insurance coverage for the academic year in order to waive coverage through Loyola. Please review the plan details, costs, and instructions for how to waive coverage on the Student Health Insurance website page.
This plan will provide students access to a nationwide network of doctors, hospitals, and specialists, as well as pharmacy and prescription drug coverage. If your student is already covered under your family’s insurance plan, we encourage you to closely compare coverage options to determine the best plan for your student while they are studying at Loyola. You will need to check with your plan provider regarding coverage and fees for services through the Student Health Clinic, as well as network providers available locally in New Orleans. If you have questions about your student’s insurance coverage, please contact the insurance provider directly.

June Spiritual Reflection |
A Message from University Chaplain Thomas Ryan, Ph.D.
We live in order to work is a perspective that the philosopher Josef Pieper takes exception to in his essay “Leisure the Basis of Culture.” In an essay on “fiesta” in U.S. Hispanic culture, theologian Roberto Goizueta writes similarly, “Our very language reflects [the] understanding of human life as made rather than lived: the modern [person] ‘makes’ a living, ‘makes’ love, and strives to ‘make something’ of himself or herself.”
|
| |
|
In contrast and according to Pieper and Goizueta, leisure and fiesta are use-less. They can’t be used or exchanged for something else; they don’t make us richer or more famous. Instead, they are about gift. And how else to respond to gift but with gratitude? Thus, leisure and fiesta set aside time for us to recognize the gift of life, community, and creation, to express gratitude for them, and to commit to living more gratefully, justly, and sustainably throughout the year. Especially for those involved in some way with schooling, summer can provide an occasion for leisure and fiesta. May this summer or sometime this year be such an opportunity for you!
