SIZZLING SUCCESS
The 2016 Summer Sizzler 5k race was a record breaking success. Although the storms kept many runners away this year, there were still 145 participants who benefitted from the cooler temperatures.
The winning time, posted by Mark Leininger at 15:10, beat the record set in 2002.  The womens winner posted a time of 16:48 shattering the record of 18:39 set in 2006.
This event is an annual fundraiser for the Humane Society and takes months of planning and work.  We would like to thank Dr. Hobson Fulmer, sponsors, volunteers and participants for working so hard on our behalf.
The event raised $12,500.00 and will go a long way in helping us give the animals in our care the much needed food, housing and medical care they deserve until being adopted.
Thanks to all involved!
FISHY FUNDRAISER
The first annual Smoked Fish Dip Off was held at Oyster City Brewing Company on August 15 and was a fun and very successful event benefitting the Humane Society.
27 participants entered the contest and the competition was stiff.  After the judges and the "people" had spoken, the winners are as follows: 1st place-Beth Appleton, 2nd place-Lois Swoboda, 3rd place-Jerry Hall, 4th place-Susan Richardson, 5th place-Cassie Gary, Peoples choice-Jerry Hall, Runner-up peoples choice-Danny Itzkovitz.  Congratulations to all of you!
We would like to thank BIGFISH SGI, JOURNEYS SGI and OYSTER CITY BREWING COMPANY as well as participants and judges for making the first annual smoked fish dip off such a success.  More than $1000.00 was raised for our 4-legged friends and we look forward to this being an ever expanding annual event.
SENIORS FOR SENIORS
We have launched a new program at the Humane Society.  The "Seniors for Seniors" program will allow qualified seniors (65+ years old) the opportunity to adopt a senior (5+ years old) dog or cat, fee free.  All veterinary costs will be covered and the pet spayed or neutered.
Pets drastically improve the quality of life for senior citizens and as we all know, the older pets are often overlooked at a shelter even though  they have so much to give.  If you or someone you know might be interested in this program, please contact us at: 850-670-8417.
HANGIN OUT
We have experienced one of the worst kitten seasons in recent memory.  We are still overloaded with mamas and babies even though we are managing to adopt or transfer 25-35 a month.
We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that we have a low cost spay/neuter voucher program.  For just a $25.00 co-pay, you can have your cat or dog spayed or neutered.  This program also includes a Rabies Vaccine.
If you or a friend, neighbor or family member needs their pet altered or  has taken a cat or kitten in, please tell them about this program.  The only way to decrease the huge number of kittens in this county is to make sure they all get spayed or neutered.
Please forward this email to anyone you know that needs assistance.
