TIPQC Annual Meeting 2014
The Annual Meeting brought together more than 325 physicians, nurses, hospital administrators, payors, families, and community groups on February 25 -26, 2014.  The featured sessions highlighted maternal and child health issues, quality improvement projects, and noted national speaker and author of SWITCH:  How to Change Things When Change is Hard, Dr. Chip Heath. The attendees were able to sharpen their improvement objectives and projects through collaborative sharing, benchmarking, and learning from national as well as state experts.  Tennessee Commissioner of Health, Dr. John Dreyzehner, Dr. Haywood Brown from Duke University, Dr. Susan Landers, The American Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on Breastfeeding, Dr. Jonathan Davis from Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center and the Chairman of the National Institutes of Health Neonatal Advisory Committee for the FDA,  Dr. Vaughn Frigon from TennCare, and Dr. Gautham Suresh from The Dartmouth Institute addressed improvement opportunities and efforts on a local, state, and national level.   Project Workshops discussed current and ongoing challenges, best practices, successes, and allowed for collaboration.

Hospital Acquired Infection Kickoff
The HAI Kickoff was held on Monday, February 24, with over 70 stakeholders addressing the issues in infection reduction.  For more information or to join this project, please contact tipqc.office@tipqc.org.

Family Enagement Training Workshop
An all day parent- and family-engagement training was led by Juliette Schlucter, Bridgekeepers, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), Vermont Oxford Network (VON), and Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care Faculty on February 25 with attendees from across the state.

Hospital Breastfeeding Promotion, Wave 2 Spread

According to Chip Heath, PhD, in his best selling book, SWITCH:  How to Change Things When Change is Hard, "Direct the Rider" includes:
A.  Follow the Bright Spots, such as Jerry Sternin in solving the Vietnamese village malnutrition issues
B.  Script the Critical Moves, referring to people having "no clue how to change"
C.  Point to the Destination, as the Teach for America teacher telling her students they could be two grades ahead by the end of the year.
D.  All of the above
