Through a Different Lens: 19th Century Women Photographers in Connecticut

In celebration of Women's History Month, The Barnum Museum will offer a program Through a Different Lens: 19th Century Women Photographers in Connecticut. The illustrated talk will be presented by Tasha Caswell, and will feature Bridgeport photographer Harriet V.S. Thorne. President Obama Visits Connecticut to Discuss Increasing Minimum Wage

President Barack Obama traveled to Central Connecticut State University in New Britain on Wednesday to speak about the importance of raising the minimum wage.
In  his remarks, President Obama shared a story about Doug Wade, the fifth-generation owner of Wade's Dairy in Bridgeport.
"One of the secrets to their success is that they treat their employees like part of the family," said President Obama.  "So Doug pays his own workers fairly. He goes a step further than that -- he writes editorials, he talks to fellow business leaders, he meets with elected officials to make the case for a higher minimum wage for everybody." 
Mayor Bill Finch, who was in attendance at Wednesday's event, released the following statement in support of raising the minimum wage:
“The minimum wage is the economic engine that drives cities like Bridgeport. And with the current minimum wage, we’re not doing enough to give every family in cities across Connecticut a fair shot at economic security and prosperity." Continue reading...

Fairfield University’s Partnership with Bridgeport Schools Awarded

NEBHE is honoring Fairfield University’s overall institutional commitment to Bridgeport Schools, the partnership’s efforts to contribute to their mutual goals of preparing students for post-graduate success, and the university’s commitment to access and success. 
"Fairfield University has been an outstanding community partner to the City of Bridgeport and our public schools,” said Mayor Bill Finch of the City of Bridgeport. “The administration, staff, students and faculty are helping to improve the lives of young people in Bridgeport every day through numerous collaborative programs.
