Dear Loyola,
I never fully contemplated the enormity of God’s love until I held my own newborn child in my arms and felt like I might explode with joy. That may be the closest I come to understanding how much we are loved by God.
God loved us so intensely that he came to be with us – to suffer with us, to laugh with us, to be human with us. God could have come to us in glory and honor and riches, a king of kings surrounded with light and splendor. Instead, God came as a tiny helpless baby, born to poor and wandering parents on one of the darkest nights of the year.
Ours is a faith of the “least of these,” the underdogs, those who have little, who don’t fit in, who make mistakes and then try again.
This Christmas, whether you have the joy of family and food and gifts, or find yourself separated from loved ones (physically or emotionally), I hope you feel the love of God. I hope you can see the light piercing the darkness.
Prayers and blessings,
Tania Tetlow
