Proxy Access vs. Records Release vs. Authorized User
From grades and degree progress to billing and financial aid, your student must authorize you to view their information in Loyola’s system in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The following three scenarios describe the types of access you may want to request from your student. If you're not sure what's best, we recommend you work with your student to complete all three steps so you have the full access you need to support them.
I need to view a specific type of academic information about my student or talk to a Loyola staff member about my student’s academic progress. Ask your student to complete a records release to allow Loyola to disclose or discuss specific information pertaining to their educational record. Your student will add you to their account, specify the type of information we can disclose to you, and give you a pin number used to verify your access. Your student may also choose to define a start and end date for your access. If you call a member of Loyola’s team to discuss aspects of your student’s record—like academic information (e.g., registration status and degree progress), accommodations, billing, financial aid, and student conduct—you will need to provide the pin number assigned to you. Your student must complete a records release for each person who needs access.
I need to monitor financial aid, billing activity, and current grades in my student’s LORA Self-Service account. Talk to your student about authorizing you as a proxy user so you can receive your own LORA Self-Service user login and view or interact with specific pages in your student’s account. Your student may grant you limited access to parts of their account, or they can allow complete access. You’ll receive an email (at the email address designated by your student) with instructions to log in. With this access, you’ll be able to monitor billing and financial aid activity, and view your student’s grades in the current term. You won’t see degree progress or registration status as a proxy—for this information you should use the records release above.
I need to view Loyola’s eCommerce system to view my student’s tuition bill and/or make a payment on their behalf. Although you’ll be able to view your student’s financial summary and account activity as a proxy user, your student will need to take an extra step to make you an authorized user in Loyola’s eCommerce system in order to view more detailed account information, set up payment plans, and make payments on behalf of your student.

August Spiritual Message: Feeding the Wolf Every month, we share a spiritual reflection from diverse voices across the university. Today's message comes from Associate Director of Ministry Ken Weber.
The story of “the wolves within” has been a part of the Native American tradition for generations. It features two characters: an elder and a youth. The elder explains to the youth that there are two wolves fighting within the human person: one is bad, the other good. The youth asks the elder, “Which wolf wins?” to which the elder responds, “The one you feed.”
The family seal of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, who in turn founded Loyola, features an image of two wolves peering into a cauldron. The image communicates the abundance of the Loyola family that allows even the “dogs” to eat from the family’s store of food. The Loyola Wolf Pack continues to be nourished from the spiritual treasure of our Jesuit mission and identity, over 100 years after our founding. Below are several opportunities for the “good wolf” inside your student to become strong from this same rich food.

Meet Makayla Hawkins, a senior majoring in psychology with a minor in legal studies. Makayla serves as president of the Student Government Association, and she's engaged in many other student orgs including Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, Loyno Pre Law, and the Black Student Union. Learn more about Makayla's journey at Loyola!
“The most rewarding part of my Loyola experience has been getting to be the President of Loyno Pre law my junior year. I was able to network with professionals in a field I'd like to enter and understand more about law school. As a first generation student, I've made it my goal to make accessing information easier for myself and other students. Therefore, I held multiple events and panels to ensure that other prospective law students were able to feel more comfortable on applying and aspiring to attend law school. It also allowed me to build a community of students that have the same ambitions as me! "
Going into her final year, Makayla can’t wait to celebrate this exciting milestone with her friends and make many more memories on campus before she graduates. As she prepares for what’s next, she also has some wise words for her fellow students.
“My advice for students wanting to get more involved on campus is to make sure that you try to challenge yourself with your involvements. College is a time for growth and finding yourself, so make sure that you're exposing yourself to new things. If an on-campus organization or event even sounds remotely interesting go check it out. You never know if you might discover a new passion or create new opportunities for yourself. Also, go to the Org Fairs!”
If your student is looking for more ways to get involved, encourage them to check out Loyola’s online engagement platform called HowlConnect to browse student orgs and see upcoming events. For questions about student engagement, email getinvolved@loyno.edu.
