PODIATRIC MEDICINE (D.P.M.)
October 8, 2020 | 11 AM - 6 PM ET | Virtual Fair
This is a free virtual event for all students who are interested in exploring careers in medicine.  They will be covering podiatric medicine as a career choice – from surgery to wound care to sport medicine, podiatric physicians provide a wide range of care for their patients.
SPOTLIGHT ON RESOURCES:
If you are considering pursuing a career in veterinary medicine and obtaining a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, the AAVMC's Pre-Vet Student and Applicant Portal is an excellent resource for you!
You can learn more about career options in veterinary medicine, explore the costs of veterinary medical education, learn about the centralized application system (VMCAS), and much more.
VOLUNTEEER OPPORTUNITY
The global pandemic changed how we interact with one another and how we approach volunteer opportunities. Many organizations have pivoted away from in-person volunteering, but that does not make the virtual opportunities any less valuable to your development as a prehealth student!
Take a look at our list of over 100+ volunteer opportunities in the area. We will be updating this list throughout the semester, so be sure to check back often!
Here is one organization that has openings and can help you develop several competencies!
Crisis Counselors answer texts from people in crisis, bringing them from a hot moment to a cool calm through active listening, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning.
Crisis Counselors commit to volunteering 4 hours per week until 200 hours are reached. Before you begin as a counselor, you’ll also complete a training period to give you all of the expertise you need to successfully and empathetically navigate crisis intervention.

This volunteer opportunity can help you hone your skills in communication, counseling, and intervention. You’ll be working alongside volunteers who are also social workers, therapists, and psychiatrists which can in turn sharpen your crisis management skills. Hours are also flexible so this is a great opportunity to get experience at odd hours if you have a tight schedule.
Best,
Amanda and Ericka

Students who fail to cancel an appointment within 24 hours and do not show up will not be allowed to make a second appointment that semester.
Appointments slots are added to the online scheduling platform on Wednesdays. If you log on and there are no options available, it is because all available appointments have been booked. We ask that you do not e-mail the prehealth team to request additional appointments.
