FOCUS: International Studies
The new issue of FOCUS on Global Resources reports on responses to “The Global Dimensions of Scholarship and Research Libraries: A Forum on the Future.” The 2012 event explored the perceived problem of decreasing acquisitions of foreign language materials in United States research libraries and the potential impact on scholarship in the humanities and social sciences.
Vote for Shared Purchase of Collections
CRL's Shared Purchase Program is a cooperative effort to acquire costly major collections and printed sets not included in the CRL Purchase Proposal Program. Any CRL library can pledge funds toward the purchase of any item on the Shared Purchase ballot in this voluntary program. Purchased materials are available for use by all member libraries. This year’s ballot features four collections for possible purchase; the ballot is available on CRL’s eDesiderata site, and the deadline is March 26.
Forum on Digital Government
New speakers round out the agenda of the upcoming forum “Leviathan: Libraries and Government Information in the Age of Big Data” at CRL. R. Eric Petersen, Congressional Research Service, will discuss challenges posed by digital government to the long-term integrity and accessibility of government records. And James A. Jacobs will take stock of major web archiving efforts by the GPO, NARA, Library of Congress, the Internet Archives, and LOCKSS-USDOCS.
