CABINET LETTER FROM CHRIS GARAVAGLIA
Dear De La Salle Community,
During this Holy Week, as campus becomes a little quieter and we commemorate the Triduum, we are all sending our blessings to you and your family. It has been a little over six months since I became an official member of the De La Salle community, although my heart has been with both De La Salle and Carondelet for many years. With my daughters graduating from Carondelet, my husband, son-in-law, and many extended family members graduating from De La Salle, as well as Carondelet, Winton Drive feels very much like a homecoming. That first day I met with David Holquin back in May of 2022, brought me such a feeling of belonging to a community I love. After wrapping up some major projects at O’Dowd, that first official day I walked on campus in the middle of October 2022, brought such joy to me. I am so honored to be a member of this incredible community with all of you. CONTINUE READING CHRIS GARAVAGLIA'S LETTER >>
On March 14, Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) released new COVID-19 protocols. Under these new guidelines, students who test positive for COVID-19 will no longer need to test after day five, as long as symptoms are improving and they have not had a fever after 24 hours (without fever reducing medications). However, a mask is required when returning to school for days 6-10. CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVID-19 INFORMATION>>
If you have been following our news stories on dlshs.org and social media, you already know that several of our students were recognized in March for academic excellence. De La Salle High School juniors, Isaiah Daco and Yianni Dedes were chosen to participate in this summer’s American Legion California Boys & Girls State Program (formerly Boys State). Our Mock Trial students reached the semifinal round of Contra Costa's Mock Trial competition for the second time in De La Salle's three year Mock Trial existence. At the same time, two AP Biology students, Marcus Kauffman and Noah Wilson, won awards at the Contra Costa Science Fair, and senior Rolando Sanchez became the first De La Salle student to receive a North Coast Section (NCS) Foundation Scholarship from the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).

The word “ohana” in Hawaiian means “family,” and the phrase “Ohana means family” is used to emphasize the importance of family in Hawaiian culture. Ohana not only includes relatives, but also people who are connected through other ways; similar to the brotherhood and community felt here at De La Salle. What better way to celebrate the feeling of “ohana” than our Ohana Auction on Saturday, May 6! Break out your favorite Hawaiian attire and join us for our biggest fundraising event of the year. Tickets are $100 each and sponsorship opportunities are available.

As we have journeyed through 40 days of Lent, our students and adults have taken advantage of several opportunities to examine their spiritual lives and participate in our Lenten practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Although the season of Lent may have a more somber tone, we never should forget that Lent is a season of preparation; it is not an end in itself. All the work and reflection we have been doing during these long Lenten days has brought us to Easter - a time to truly celebrate how Christ conquered death and brought us life. READ MORE >>
