Dear Loyola,
I am so happy to see many of you back on campus and cannot wait for you all to return on Monday. There is nothing like distance to remind us of the joy of being together in community. I want to just remind you of some of the amazing things you can do on campus.
The College of Music and Media has a number of performances on the books for February. I am particularly excited about Opera Connects, which comes from our artistic partnership with Xavier University of Louisiana. Both our schools have strong ties to the operatic tradition in New Orleans, and this inaugural concert will showcase faculty and students from both universities.
Our men’s basketball team is having their best season ever, and there are four home games in The Den set for February. The women’s team is also on the rise, having won their third straight game as I write this. Or watch our baseball team at Segnette Field when they take on Texas Wesleyan University on February 19-20.
For students, we have opportunities to deepen your spirituality with experiences like our Senior Retreat, or the SEEK conference next week. Employees, don’t forget about our spiritual retreat benefit for any opportunities you find for the spring to explore your faith. And while I am at it, I encourage you all to sign up for the Lenten Retreat in Daily Life, a series of daily meditations throughout Lent. This year we are offering the reflections in English and en español.
And as we participate in New Orleans’ extensive preparation for Lent (ahem) now is the time to try as many different king cakes as you can. My personal favorite is the traditional McKenzie’s, but this year I am hoping to try the king cake monkey bread from Mae’s Bakeshop, and I always enjoy a classic galette des rois from La Boulangerie.
Prayers and Blessings,
