NOSA Easter Egg Hunt for Children with Visual Impairments a Big Success
One of the most outstanding qualities of the College of Optometry is the remarkable amount of service provided by our students. Certainly, the UMSL chapter of the National Optometric Student Association (NOSA) is a very good example of community service.  see more
Progress Continues on the Patient Care Center and Renovations of Marillac Hall
As communicated in the Winter issue of the EyeWire, on January 31st the Curators of the University of Missouri system approved the building of a $17 million dollar optometry patient care center to be located directly in front of the current facility on Natural Bridge Road (site of the old Normandy Hospital).

UMSL Founding Dean is Honored by His Alma Mater
Jerry L. Christensen OD, PhD, founding Dean of the College of Optometry, was recently notified that he was selected by The Ohio State University College of Optometry (TOSUCO) during their 100th anniversary as a TOSUCO Notable Alum. Dr. Christensen received this honor as a result of a long and distinguished career in optometric administration.

Dr. Tim Wingert Appointed New Dean for Rosenberg School of Optometry
Dr. Tim Wingert, former Professor of Optometry at the College of Optometry was named dean of University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry (UIWRSO) on May 7th.  Dr. Wingert had been serving as associate dean of academic affairs at (UIWRSO). see more

Dr. Bachman Retires
After a long and distinguished career spanning more than 25 years in the College of Optometry, Dr. W. Gary Bachman retired on March 1, 2014. Prior to his arrival he was an optometrist in the U. S. Air Force and was stationed within the United States and abroad including assignments in Thailand and Germany. Dr. Bachman and his wife, Dr. Jean Bachman, College of Nursing, were both honored for 25 years of service to the campus at the annual Founders Dinner in September 2013. Best wishes to Dr. Bachman, Associate Professor Emeritus on his retirement!
The College Mourns   the Loss of Dr. Earle Hunter
Dr. Earle L. Hunter, former Executive Director of the American Optometric Association and Special Assistant to both Dean Jack Bennett and Dean Larry Davis, passed away on April 27 from Alzheimer’s-related conditions.  see more
