Young Life leader Allen Guy, Alex Montgomery and fellow high school student Bobby Porter, along with Young Life college student Robby Thornton goof around at New Tampa's annual golf tournament.

Thanks for your support of our annual Golf Tournament

Nearly 100 golfers enjoyed a beautiful day on the Hunter's Green golf course earlier this month. The event raised more than $33,000 for New Tampa Young Life's operating budget, and an additional $1,700 to help send kids to camp (which will be matched by a generous foundation grant).

Alex Montgomery, a high school student, shared how his experiences in Young Life have brought him into a relationship with Jesus, especially by going to camp, and how he is now serving teenagers with disabilities through Young Life's Capernaum program. A couple times a year, he attends camp as a "buddy" to a teenager with special needs. He admitted that at first, he was "nervous and awkward, and cautious of interacting with teenagers with special needs, thinking I had nothing to relate with them." But just by spending time, and being willing to move outside his comfort zone, Alex has developed a servant's heart, and has been rewarded for it. "The camper I've been paired up with for the past two years, Eric, has shown me more things about myself than I could ever imagine. He is the coolest kid and in the first camp we went to together, we clicked. After a few days, I forgot he had any disability. It was just like hanging out with a friend."

Young Life's mission is to introduce kids to Jesus Christ, and then we help them to use their passion for Jesus to serve others. Alex and many other teenagers are given the opportunity to do this through Young Life in New Tampa. Thanks to Alex for sharing his story at the golf tournament, and to the many supporters and volunteers who made this fantastic event happen.
