GHCC Gets Out in the Woods With Go-ASAP Kids
Students enjoying the fragrance of grand fir needles.
GHCC staffers Brian Kelly and Hatham Al-Shabibi ventured into the Mount Emily Recreation Area earlier this month with Union County students as part of GHCC's partnership with EOU's Go-ASAP program.
Go-ASAP introduces outdoor recreation and healthy habits to local middle school students, facilitating easy access to wild spaces and equipment. Program leader Professor Kelly Rice and her assistants take the kids hiking, skiing, mountain biking, and snowshoeing, and the program culminates in an overnight backpacking trip.
This year, GHCC is getting to tag along and talk local ecology during some of the activities. The first topic? Trees!

Wildlife Watchers 2017 Recap
GHCC's Wildlife Watchers program uses motion-triggered trail cameras to track wildlife on National Forests. The program is conducted in partnership with the Forest Service; GHCC volunteers help provide important wildlife data to the agency that in turn informs management decisions on our public lands. You can read the recap of our 2017 season here.

Action Alert: Stop the Boardman to Hemmingway Transmission Line

Our friends at the Stop B2H Coalition have been working tirelessly to halt the production of this unnecessary power transmission line, which threatens to fragment sage grouse habitat and mar the beloved viewsheds of Eastern Oregon.
The Oregon Public Utility Commission (OPUC) is meeting on April 10th. Stop B2H needs the public to contact OPUC and ask that the project be sent back to the drawing board. Check out Stop B2H's helpful instructions on how to comment here.
Senator Wyden's Town Hall Meetings

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden will be touring Eastern Oregon in the first week of April. (View the full schedule here.) He will be in La Grande on April 3rd at 3:00 p.m., meeting at EOU in Zabel Hall’s Lewis Auditorium (room 101). Don't miss this chance to speak to your elected representative about your values, environmental and otherwise!
