Help Build the New Community Park Playground May 31

The new Community Park Playground, across the street from Shaffer Elementary, will be installed on Saturday, May 31, and we need more volunteers to help! Community volunteers will do most of the installation, supervised by employees of the playground equipment manufacturer. The Community Build is a great event for the whole family. There are multiple shifts available for several age groups as well as fun activities planned throughout the day. Community Park will be closed May 19 through June 15 for tear-down, preparation, building and inspection. For more information and to sign up, see our Special Events page.

Election Deadline Nearing

All registered voters in the Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District (KCRMD) should have received their mail ballots for the May 6 election for Bond Issue 5A and the MD Board of Directors. To be counted, a mail ballot must be returned to the Ranch House or the Designated Election Official no later than 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. A mail ballot received after that date and time cannot be counted, even if it was mailed by May 6. Eligible KCRMD electors will vote for three individuals (see MD Board Candidate Profiles) to serve on the KCRMD Board of Directors as well as vote on Bond Ballot Issue 5A authorizing the KCRMD to issue up to $7.9 million in municipal bonds for capital improvements to the community.

Nesting Great Horned Owls

Go owling in search of nesting great horned owls at this special Environmental Education program on Friday, May 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Dakota Lodge. Keep a lookout for the fluffy white chicks that by May will be large enough to move out of the nest where they wait for their parents to bring them food. Discover some fascinating facts about this large, common owl and how they are adapted to night hunting. Register for Course No. 28060 online or by calling 303-979-4070.

"Not Just Electronics" Recycling Event

Get rid of your unwanted electronics, appliances, televisions, large trash items, scrap metal, paperwork, yard waste, latex paints, household items and tires from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 in the Ranch House parking lot. We can only accept items at the event, so please DO NOT drop off items for recycling at the Ranch House before or after the event. Many items will be recycled for free, but there are fees (cash only) associated with latex paints, tires, CRT computer monitors and televisions. See the Recycling Event Article for a list of items that can and can't be recycled, along with the fee, if any.

Summer Camp Options for Preschoolers

Did you miss the lottery for preschool summer camp? There’s still space available to register for half-day, extended-day and full-day care options for 3-5 year olds at the Ranch House and Community Center. Will your child be 5 years old before June 2? Check out our NEW Kinder Kamp option at the Ranch House! For more information or to register, see our Preschool Camps page or call us at 303-979-4070.

West Metro Election Ballot Issue

West Metro Fire Rescue is aware that some voters received duplicate ballots for the upcoming May 6 election. This happened because West Metro received a voter registration list from the county and clerk as well as a property owners list from the assessor's office. The software program West Metro used to eliminate duplicate names and addresses only catches exact match names. So if the name or address is different in any way, e.g. Michael Smith vs. Mike Smith or P.O. Box vs. PO Box, the software will not catch it and remove the duplicate. If voters received multiple ballots, they are asked to vote on only one ballot and destroy the other. On the back of the ballot envelope, voters are signing an Affidavit of Voter that the voter will not cast more than one ballot in this election.

Community Garage Sale May 30-31

The Ken-Caryl Community-Wide Garage Sale will be Friday and Saturday, May 30-31 in your own driveway or garage. The advertised time for the sale is 8 a.m.-2 p.m. but feel free to hold your sale earlier or later. Residents will not need to sign up for the garage sale this year. Discounted garage sale signs will be available for $4 (normally $6) starting Wednesday, May 14 at the Ranch House. On Saturday, May 31 (time TBD) there will be Goodwill donation trucks at the Ranch House so residents can drop off their unsold items. Members of the Ken-Caryl Ranch Veterans Monument Committee will be manning the trucks, and Goodwill will make a donation to the Veterans Monument based on the volume of items donated. If you have any questions, please contact Victoria DeSair at victoriad@kcranch.org or 303-979-1876, ext. 122.
