2014 Summer Games
Stillwater, OK

Thank you for being a part of 2014 Summer Games and seeing what the Law Enforcement Torch Run is all about.  Over 4,676 Special Olympics athletes were at this event.  The annual Torch Run was the official start of the State’s Summer Games for Oklahoma’s athletes.  Officers around the state ran the torch towards Stillwater to meet other agencies for the Final Leg of the Torch Run, a parade of runners and law enforcement vehicles down Hall of Fame.

Torch Run 2014
This year, hundreds of Oklahoma law enforcement employees organized and participated in the Torch Run for Special Olympics. The Torch Run is a series of relay runs leading up to the Special Olympics Oklahoma State Summer Games. Runners carry the Torch from all corners of the state and meet up in Stillwater. The culmination of the run is at the Summer Games Opening Ceremonies, where the torch bearers bring the “Flame of Hope” into the ceremonies to light the Summer Games Cauldron.
Oklahoma’s annual Torch Run is not only a symbolic relay, it is also a fundraising opportunity for Special Olympics Oklahoma. Runners are encouraged to collect pledges from family and friends for their participation in the event. Your pledges are a great way to encourage the runner and also raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics Oklahoma.

Join us for the 12th Annual Cops on Doughnut Shops fundraiser benefiting Special Olympics Oklahoma at Krispy Kreme Doughnut Shops in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The goal this year $30,000 for Special Olympics Oklahoma.
Officers from agencies across the state will be at the Tulsa and Oklahoma Krispy Kreme Doughnut Shops for ONE DAY this year to raise awareness for Special Olympics and community policing.  We will need one officer on Top of the Krispy Kreme and the other officers on the ground to collect donations and interact with the public.  Here is a signup sheet that you can use for your department.  It lists the shifts available.

This event not only raises money for Special Olympics Oklahoma, but also helps promote community policing.  During this event, agencies have displayed squad cars, motorcycles, police hot rods, rollover simulators, mounted patrols, bomb trucks, R.V.s, and just about any cool law enforcement gadget an agency has.  Officers have also distributed stickers and other community policing pamphlets while interacting with the public in a positive light.  We would also love to include any other community involvement programs that your agency would like to promote.  Too many times, law enforcement is seen in the media for negative reasons.  This event is a great opportunity to be seen in a positive light. Almost all of the media from TV, newspaper, radio, etc… cover this event.

We hope that a few of your officers will be able to volunteer for one or more shifts during this event.  I will contact you in the near future to see if you are interested in participating in this event.  If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to contact me at 918.481.1234 or  jenniferl@sook.org.
