Grand Valley has named Robert Shorty as the university's first VP for People, Equity and Culture, a division designed to connect and advance operations such as human resources, inclusion and equity, and the employee Ombuds. 

The Blue Dot Experience showcased its innovative technology during GVSU's Tech Week Grand Rapids. A digital 3D avatar of President Mantella explained Blue Dot's vision of the future, including the desire for GR to become a tech hub.

Pat Smith, general counsel, is retiring at the end of December 2024. Smith has spent 25 years providing legal advice and support for GVSU. Jessica Karbowski Weare, who most recently served for the State of Michigan, began her tenure as general counsel October 28. 

FinLit, developed by students for students, began as idea between high schoolers and is set to become a reality in 2025. Finlit started as a pitch through GV's REP4, a program meant to drive innovation.

GVSU accepted the National Centers of Academic Excellence-Cyber Defense designation on October 9. The designation is awarded to universities that meet criteria related to curriculum, faculty, and activities outside the classroom.

Sage Mortimer won the gold medal in the 50kg weight class at the Under-23 World Championships in Tirana, Albania this October. Mortimer is a member of Grand Valley's first women's wrestling team. Mortimer will continue her wrestling career for the start of wrestling season at GVSU.

Grand Valley State announced the addition of eight new members to the Athletics Hall of Fame. They will will be inducted on Friday, November, 1 2024 at the Raleigh J. Finkelstein Athletic Village.

Grand Valley State (ranked #6) claimed a 51-28 victory over Wayne State before a Homecoming crowd of 10,377 at Lubbers Stadium. The Lakers will hit the road for a GLIAC contest at Michigan Tech Saturday, November 9.

The GVSU community is rallying around the Replenish Student Food Resource Fund, which provides food and household items, infant and child necessities, and school supplies to learners in need.  
  
As part of Giving Tuesday efforts, the GVSU community is invited to participate in our Campus Food Drive from November 1-December 6. Non-perishable food donations will go directly to the Replenish Basic Needs Center, our campus food pantry.
