Tallowood Times | Remember Tallowood Tomorrow

Dear Community of Joy Walking out the door this week I looked at the trees and the flowers and the greenness surrounding me and remembered an Easter song, "Was it a morning like this . . ." Are we ready for the main event of Christianity? With gratitude for Christmas, in a way it only provides the prelude. The miraculous birth without the death and resurrection would have left us empty. Instead the tomb is empty and consequently life is full.

This year we have prepared a daily devotional to guide our thoughts about the last week of Jesus' life. We will make it available on Palm Sunday weekend complete with worship guides for the various events including Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. I am so grateful for the prayerful preparation of my colleagues in ministry. We want this week to be most meaningful, because it all matters.

Every year I think at this time, "I live for Easter . . ." and then the thought follows, "Because of Easter I live." John Updike the novelist once tackled Easter in poetry. I like his thoughts which begin with this stanza:

"Make no mistake: if He rose at all
it was as His body;
if the cells' dissolution did not reverse, the molecules
reknit, the amino acids rekindle,
the Church will fall."

His words written over fifty years ago merely confirm a truth, two millennia old: "Christ is risen from the dead, overcoming death by death." This very truth changes the way I drive into and out of cemeteries. More, it changes the way I live. Are you ready for Easter? I can't wait!

In His Invincible Hope,

Duane

Giving 100% to Missions

The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering is much more than an offering envelope and an annual missions-giving emphasis. When people give to the offering, 100 percent of their gift will be transformed into missionary salaries and ministry supplies. Those missionaries and supplies will help others hear the message of Christ and respond in faith to His offer of salvation. Time and again our missionaries relate how the offering is their lifeblood. They know that behind each penny given, there is someone who believes in what they do and are affirming the need to equip them to share the gospel with those who need a Savior. For more information, visit anniearmstrong.com or contact Cheryl Richardson in the Missions Office.

They provide pastoral training to native pastors and minister to the medical needs of children, orphans, widows, expectant mothers, elderly, disabled and lepers.
