Choosing the Right Pediatrician
by Dr. Mark C. Downey
Pediatric Associates of Williamsburg, CHKD Medical Group

Choosing the right pediatrician for your family is among the most important decisions you'll ever have to make. CHKD Medical Group practices have various resources to help you get started, including meet-and-greet sessions where parents can meet our doctors, tour the office, and ask questions. Communicating with your child's pediatrician is extremely important, so talking to several doctors before deciding on one is the best way to find the right fit for your child and family. Read more.
Coping with Colic
by Dr. Marcella Childs,Town Center Pediatrics, CHKD Medical Group
Does your baby cry uncontrollably for at least three hours a day, several times a week? If so, it could be colic. No one knows what causes colic, but it usually goes away by 3 to 4 months of age. Until then, try one of the following: rock or walk your baby, give your baby interesting things to look at, change their position, or try going for a ride in the car. If you feel like you might want to hit or shake your baby, put him in the crib and go into another room until you feel calmer. Don't hesitate to ask family members or friends for help.
Boost Brain Power with Breakfast
by Barbara Benson, RNCHKD Healthy You for Life Program Manager
Studies show that children who eat breakfast perform better academically than those who don't. Boost brain power with a breakfast rich in protein and good carbohydrates, like a toasted whole-grain waffle, topped with peanut butter. Add a glass of low-fat milk and a piece of fruit. And remember, any breakfast is better than no breakfast. Kids who skip breakfast tend to eat more calories throughout the day. Helping Kids Deal with Divorce
by Michelle Tryon, CCLS, CHKD Parent Educator
Divorce is a jarring reality for many families. It can be stressful, sad and confusing and can make kids feel uncertain and even angry. Kids often feel trapped in the middle and wonder if it's their fault. Reassure them it's not, and tell them you love them often. Help them adjust to the change by offering as much stability and structure as possible. It's also important to take care of yourself. Staying calm and emotionally present will help your kids feel more at ease. For additional tips, visit our health library.
