Stepping into Fall Semester
Departments across campus are hard at work preparing to welcome our students back to campus. Here’s a look at what’s happening:
IGNITE: August 24, 25, and 26 First Year Student Services is hosting IGNITE on three separate days to accommodate and to socially distance students. Students will only need to sign-up for ONE of the three available dates.
Each day of IGNITE will run from 1pm-8pm, with check-in beginning at 1pm. For more information on the day's agenda, please visit the IGNITE website here.
First Year Student Services is also looking for volunteers to help during various parts of the day. Please keep in mind that volunteer positions and times will vary. If you are interested in an opportunity to volunteer at IGNITE, you can learn more and sign-up for a spot here.
General questions regarding IGNITE can be sent to First Year Student Services at firstyear@ysu.edu.
Residence Hall Move-In: August 24, 25, and 28 New resident move-in will be held on August 24 and 25 and returning resident move-in will be on August 28. Prior to moving in, all students will be required to take a COVID test, regardless of vaccination status. For more details visit our website.
Please note that on Tuesday, August 24 and Wednesday, August 25 both IGNITE and residence hall move-in will occur. There will be a high volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic on campus. We appreciate your patience with any interruptions to your typical routine, and appreciate your participation as a part of our Penguin community in welcoming our students to campus!

Penguin Student Handbook
The Division of Student Affairs is excited to share a new and improved Penguin Student Handbook with campus. This handbook is intended to convey information about university resources, policies, and procedures to our students, supplementing information contained in the Youngstown State University catalog, class schedules, and university websites. The handbook contains a directory of on and off campus resources, a full version of the Student Code of Conduct, the Academic Grievance Process, Withdrawal details, and much more. Faculty and staff are encouraged to review the handbook and share the link with students to assist them as they navigate life at YSU.
Updates and changes are made annually to the handbook. Anyone with suggestions for amending or changing any of the information in this handbook should make those suggestions in writing to the Division for Student Affairs: studentaffairs@ysu.edu.

Financial Aid Special Circumstance Review
If a student and/or their family has experienced a financial hardship during the calendar year 2020, or into 2021, please have them contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to discuss a potential reassessment of their federal and state grant aid eligibility. While not every applicant may qualify, we are happy to review their individual circumstances in an effort to ensure that eligible students are receiving access to all possible need-based financial aid resources. Feel free to refer students to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships appointment line at 330-941-3506, or email at ysufinaid@ysu.edu to set-up an appointment with a Financial Aid Counselor.
Please note, students must be an undergraduate and eligible to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2021-2022 aid year in or to qualify for this review process.
