Dear Loyola Community,
Today marks the start of one of the most vibrant events of the year in New Orleans – the French Quarter Festival. It’s a historic event where our students have the opportunity to perform at one of the most visited festivals in the world and work behind the scenes, learning from the best in the industry.
First produced in 1984, the festival draws artists and food enthusiasts. It has 21 stages and 300 shows celebrating various genres, from jazz to Zydeco. Loyola’s School of Music and Theatre Professions is partnering with the festival for a second year. Our Esplanade in the Shade Stage will offer programming Friday through Sunday, with Loyola musicians performing four sets over the weekend. Check out the full lineup.
Two weeks after the FQF, the city will celebrate the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, where over 50 students, faculty, staff and alumni perform annually. These festivals are yet another example of how our students start their professional journeys well before graduation by receiving world-class performance and music industry experience.
In late March, Loyola also sponsored a stage at Freret Street Festival, providing support behind the scenes and on the stage—rounding out our trifecta of spring festival appearances!
I encourage each of you to support our talented students and celebrate the music and culture that make New Orleans truly unique. I highlighted a few of our upcoming student performances below, and you can view a full listing of on-campus performances on our Loyola Presents website.
Sincerely,
Kate Duncan
Director, School of Music & Theatre Professions
