Message from Denise Levine
Northeast District Outgoing President
| |
When I became President, I talked a lot about making connections. I have met so many of you and that has been the thing that I will treasure most.
We worked hard during the past two years. We made changes to our Constitution to help open our tents a little wider and make it easier for women to dip a toe into the district at a level that is comfortable for them. We tuned up our Policies and Procedures to match how we operate. We added some leadership development to our Kallah to help both our own district leaders as well as the sisterhood leaders that participated. We had fifteen speakers bureau visits, three area events with a total of 170 women, a district event in Austin at Fried Leadership Conference with 27 women and another in Orlando at the Assembly with 67 women. And another 98 women are coming to convention! That’s a lot of connections and as this district continues to grow, we will reach even more.
I would like to thank all the women on my board for their time and diligence over the last two years. Each and every one of us gives up a significant amount of their time to work in this organization and that should never go unnoticed. This board has been an incredible team and I am grateful to each one of them. And thank you to all the women that have participated over the last two years. I hope that you have been inspired and/or learned something new along the way. Continue to bring your gifts to your sisterhoods and to the district and always remember that we are stronger together.
Thank you for the opportunity and the blessing to have served as your president.
Denise

Arrange a Viewing of DENIAL, the Movie
Based on the acclaimed book "Denial: Holocaust History on Trial," DENIAL recounts Deborah Lipstadt’s (Academy Award® winner Rachel Weisz) legal battle against David Irving (BAFTA nominee Timothy Spall), who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier.
In the English legal system, in cases of libel, the burden of proof is on the defendant; therefore it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team, led by Richard Rampton (Academy Award® nominee Tom Wilkinson), to prove that the Holocaust had occurred.

The 2000 election was not the first time a candidate won the popular vote but lost the election. It has happened 3 times previously in 1824 (Adams won over Jackson, 1876 (Hayes won over Tilden), and 1888 (Harrison won over Cleveland). Only 12 presidents have been elected to and served a second term. Franklin Roosevelt was elected to 4 terms prior to the 22nd Amendment which limited terms. Martin Van Buren was the first natural-born American to become president in 1837. The previous 7 had been born as British subjects. In 1872, Victoria Woodhull became the first woman to run for president. In 2016, Hillary Clinton became the first woman to be nominated by a major party ticket. By the middle of this month, we will know if we will have our first woman president.
