Scott Swanson: A Great Leader in a Long Line of Esteemed Chairmen

The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce 110th Annual Meeting is in two weeks (I hope you’ve all registered to attend!) This meeting marks the end of Scott Swanson’s tenure as Chairman of the Chamber, but don’t expect him to disappear any time soon.
As the Regional President of PNC Bank, Illinois, Scott is a proven leader in Chicago’s business and civic communities and is as passionate as anyone I’ve met about the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and its efforts to strengthen our business climate. We have been privileged over the past two years to have someone with Scott’s enthusiasm and expertise leading the Chamber into a bright future. Throughout his tenure, Scott has been instrumental in driving our mission to promote business growth, encourage collaboration and foster competitiveness in the region.
Scott embodies all that is good about the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. On behalf of our members, our staff, and the Chicago business community, I thank Scott for everything he’s done and will continue to do.
The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 24, from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at Navy Pier. I encourage all of you to attend to help us celebrate our 110th anniversary and recognize Scott for his contributions and accomplishments as Chairman.

Sincerely,

Theresa E. Mintle

Business and Government Leaders Call for Immigration Reform

The Illinois Business Immigration Coalition (IBIC) continued its push for comprehensive immigration reform as it hosted “Immigration Reform: Bottom-Line 2014” on Monday, June 9. Local politicians, CEOs and Latino and Asian business leaders shared their personal experiences with the nation’s broken immigration system and demanded a congressional vote on the issue.
“We see not only the moral and political appropriateness of this, but as the voice of business in Chicago, we see the economic implications for comprehensive immigration reform for the Chicagoland area and the nation as a whole,” said Mark Segal, Chair of the Chicagoland Chamber Public Policy Committee. “Without question it will drive growth and create jobs, which are really the hallmark of what we do.”

Officials Urge Chicagoans to Prepare for Kennedy Expressway Construction

Traffic during the last three weekends in June will be seriously affected by construction on the Kennedy Expressway, which includes demolishing the 55-year-old westbound Ontario Bridge.
The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Restaurant Association, Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association, Choose Chicago and The Magnificent Mile Association have been working with the City of Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communication (OEMC) to ensure that all possible traffic management methods and alternative transportation options have been fully vetted.
