PERE seeks a Data Analyst/Project Specialist
The data analyst/project specialist will require a mix of skills: familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research strategies, an ability to use statistical and GIS software, experience in statistical analysis and testing, and an ability to make all this relevant to communities and organizations.

We're also looking for a new Office and Communications Assistant for the Summer of 2014.
This position involves research and administrative support tasks related to communications activities for PERE and CSII. This includes helping to create content for social media, websites, and enewsletters. Writing, publicity, and digital design skills are a plus! This is a paid internship, with a commitment of 25 - 30 hours a week during the summer of 2014.

PERE in the News 
The LA Times ran a piece last  Friday titled,  "Pollution burden higher for state's Latinos and blacks, report finds" by Tony Barboza.  
PERE's Manuel Pastor  commented on a recently released report by state environmental officials that stated: "Latinos and African Americans make up a disproportionately high percentage of the population of California ZIP Codes most burdened by pollution."

It was a full capacity crowd at CSII's February 26th event  "Central American Immigration: Honoring Pioneers and Charting New Paths.
Thanks to all who came for the panel discussion, celebration, and the first annual CSII Immigration Scholar Activist Award presentation to our esteemed guests Nora Hamilton and Norma Chinchilla.

Upcoming PERE/CSII events in April

    • Wed. April 16:  Save the Date! Join us at USC's Leavey Library Auditorium from 12:30pm - 2:30pm for a book talk with Rev. Alexia Salvatierra about her book "Faith-Rooted Organzing."  
       
    • Wed. April 23: PERE's Social Justice Research Fellows (SJRF) Amee Chew and Adam Liszkiewicz will present their final research projects. Stay tuned to next month's digest for details.
    Mar. 21: Investment Justice / SB 535 Workshop
    On Friday March 21st, PERE will be co-sponsoring an SB 535 Workshop: Investment Justice and the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund in conjunction with the UCLA Luskin Center and other key partners.
    SB 535 (de Leόn) requires that at least 25 percent of the moneys in the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund go to projects that benefit disadvantaged communities. This event will convene leaders from government, academia, and community organizations to discuss the planning and implementation of strategic investments to maximize the co-benefits of greenhouse gas reducing projects.
