Mayor Finch Visits Brave Young Man
Fundraiser to support Michael Rodriguez, a six-year-old boy
who suffers from a rare and serious genetic disorder, to be held on Saturday
On Thursday, Mayor Bill Finch visited Waltersville School to meet Michael Rodriguez, a six-year-old young man who suffers from a rare and serious genetic disorder called Cardiofaciocutaneous (CFC) syndrome. Worldwide, there are only about 300 people reported with this disorder.
During his meeting, Mayor Finch presented Michael with a citation recognizing the young man for his bravery.
Michael and his family are planning on attending a conference in July to meet with experts and to educate themselves alongside other families who are going through similar challenges.
The Waltersville School Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is hosting a fundraiser at Moe's Burger Joint, 997 Main Street in downtown Bridgeport, on Saturday, April 5 (tomorrow) from 4 to 8 p.m. to benefit Michael and his family's trip to the conference.
Donations can also be accepted on FirstGiving.org.
Standard & Poor’s confirms Bridgeport’s ‘A’ credit rating
Credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s has confirmed a stable outlook for the City of Bridgeport, maintaining its ‘A’ long-term credit rating.
“This healthy credit rating is further proof that Bridgeport is on the right track, with a disciplined approach to economic development and green job creation,” said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch. “Our increasingly stable financial situation positions us to obtain low, long-term interest rates, which in turn help us continue making smart investments aimed at moving Bridgeport toward a stronger future.”
In its report, Standard & Poor’s noted the positive impact of the city’s strong management practices, good financial policies, and an experienced and capable management team. The agency also pointed out that the city has strong liquidity.

State BOE Approves Two Bridgeport Charter Schools
Connecticut’s State Board of Education approved four charter schools on Wednesday, including two in Bridgeport.
In response, Mayor Bill Finch made the following statement:
“As the father of two kids who are currently attending Bridgeport public schools, I strongly believe that every child in Bridgeport deserves a fair shot at getting a high-quality education. And high-performing public charter schools in the Park City and across the state are preparing kids for college and to compete for 21st century jobs. That’s why I’m thrilled the State Board of Education gave the green light for these schools to get approved, helping to ensure that additional high-quality public school options will be available for kids and families in our state’s largest city.”
