This year, maybe the most meaningful gift for my husband was a canvas wall portrait of Martina playing in the snow for one of the first times. I will never forget seeing his eyes go wide and a broad smile spread across his face, and then a tender moment of quiet as he held the portrait up and took in his little girl. Her expression covering a million feelings, her deep brown eyes and soft glowing skin. The next day, I walked with him through our home to help him select the perfect place for his portrait and then took measurements and installed his portrait as I have done for so many of my clients before. I was elated as I looked at my happy husband enjoying his new work of art. I think we both get a little giddy happy feeling every time we walk by or catch a fleeting glimpse of Martina.
Preparing and gifting a portrait to my husband this holiday was a poignant experience and led me to reflect on each of the families whose homes I have helped decorate with love, smiles, warmth, and meaning this year and over the all of the years. I am so grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with families to create truly one-of-a-kind artwork that brings happiness and an endless list of other emotions to their lives everyday.
As 2013 comes to a close, I thank all of you in this Virginia L. S. Freire Photography family for opening your homes and lives to me as your photographer, for giving me the opportunity to create timeless works of art that will be passed down to the next and the next and the next generation, for supporting me and helping me to build a business that brings me such incredible personal satisfaction and joy, and for simply being my friends. It has been an amazing year and I am so excited for what lies ahead.
