Scholarship Deadlines Approaching
PSU Scholarships and the International Student Life office scholarship deadlines are coming soon! Check our website for more information and plan to attend our workshop on Thursday afternoon for tips on how to apply (see details about workshop below). 
Update Address
Have you recently moved? Be sure to keep your address up-to-date in Banweb, and also notify the U.S. Post Office of your new address so that you can continue to get your mail! Remember to do this every time you move. Click here for more info and to get started. 
Free Subscription to the New York Times
All current PSU international students have access to a free one year subscription to the online New York Times. Watch your email for a notification from the NYTimes and information about how to login. 
Student Food Pantry
The Student Food Pantry will open on January 18th and is open every week day from 12:30-2:30pm in the basement of SMSU at room 47A. You can stop by once per day and claim up to 5 free food items each day to take home with you. Items include dry beans, rice, cans of soup, pasta, tuna, almond milk, and more. 

Feature of the Week

Mahamadou Sissoko
Mahamadou Sissoko came from his home town of Bamako, Mali, in west Africa and began taking classes in the IELP in 2014 and has now moved into his major classes in Finance and become a highly-involved student leader on campus. He is a Resident Academic Mentor, a member of the Student Fee Committee with student government, an international student mentor, and a coordinator of the International Cultural Service Program (ICSP).

Join the Organization of International Students for a fun way to kick off the start of the term - free bowling, pool, video games, and snacks! All are welcome to attend. 
Portland Trailblazers Basketball Game
Friday, January 27th, 7:30pm, MODA Center
Join Jill and the international student mentors for an awesome experience - the chance to see a real professional basketball game and cheer for the Portland Trailblazers! We will meet at 5:30pm at East Hall and go to the game together as a group, or you can pick up your ticket earlier and meet us there. Click on the link to purchase your tickets. Tickets are $15 each! 
Portland Winter Light Festival
Wednesday, February 1st, 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Winter is dark and gloomy, so let's get out and see some beautiful lights in the night sky! Join Rachel for a walk to the east waterfront near OMSI to check out this free event filled with beautiful art installations. Tickets are free, please sign up at the link here

Do you have questions about CPT, OPT, or STEM Extension? Come get your questions answered by an international student advisor. The first 20 minutes will be focused on CPT, the next 30-40 minutes on OPT, and the final 30 minutes on the STEM Extension. Come for the parts that interest you. No registration is necessary. All workshops take place in East Hall 109.

University Housing and Residence Life (UHRL) Student Leadership Opportunities
UHRL is now hiring for leadership positions for next year. You can be a mentor to your peers in a residential setting and impact student success through the LCA and RAM positions. This leadership experience covers room and board expenses. Applications and job descriptions can be found here. Please note, international students are not eligible for RA positions because they require more than 20 hours/week. Ask your immigration advisor if you have questions before applying.
