September Events at Gibson's
We have an excellent line-up of author events this month.
THIS WEEK:
Thursday, Sept. 11, 4 PM     Loren Long, author of Otis -- the most beloved tractor in all of children's literature! -- visits to share his new picture book, Otis and the Scarecrow.  Loren Long always hits the NYT bestseller list, with good reason--his books are fantastic.
Friday, Sept. 12, 7 PM          Tad Pfeffer gives a talk about the history of summer homes in Northern New England. His book, perfect for gift-giving, is sumptuously produced by publisher David R. Godine.

New releases!
Just look at these marvelous books that we have for you this week. Two of my favorite novels for the fall-- Station Eleven and The Children Act--and a children's book by Keith Richards, whose memoir Life kept me up until 4 in the morning one night a few years ago.  Please come buy them and read them and come in and talk with me about them. I thought they were fantastic. (Ask for Michael)

Later in September:
Tuesday, Sept. 16, 7 PM      John Scalzi, Hugo Award-winning author of Redshirts and many other classic SF novels, and prominent citizen of the blogosphere, makes his first trip to Concord, to promote his new novel, Lock In.  This is a big deal, folks, though the author might shake his head to hear us say it.
Tuesday, Sept. 23, 6 PM      Local author and teacher Bishop O'Connell joins us to present his new fantasy novel, The Stolen, in which faeries not only kidnap mortal children but have traded in their ancient swords and horses for modern guns and sports cars. (Note time)
NH History and Humor
Thursday, Sept. 25, 7 PM     Mike Morin, a legendary figure in New Hampshire radio history, tells us all about his over four decades on the air in Fifty Shades of Radio.  Collected from his humor columns in the Nashua Telegraph, these stories include receiving death threats and naked pictures from elderly women (we hope not in the same envelope), being buried alive, and many more.

...and there's more....
On Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 PM, we host the monthly meeting of the NH Poetry Society. Headliners will be S Stephanie and Mark DeCarteret, and their readings will be followed by an open mic event. All are welcome! Come to listen, come to read.
Every Tuesday and Saturday, at 10 AM, we host a children's storytime, and every Friday, at 10:30, we have lapsit storytime for the younger kids.
The 2014 Independent Spirit Award
Each year, the group called the Book Publishers Representatives of New England (BPRNE) names one bookstore from the six New England states to be the winner of that year's Independent Spirit Award.  Past winners have included Harvard Bookstore, Brookline Booksmith, Northshire, Porter Square, Bank Square in Mystic, Toadstool, and other iconic New England Bookstores.
The reps have chosen us to be the winner for 2014, and we could not be more honored or more thrilled. We have a lot of people to thank for this award, but mostly we would like to thank you, the readers of New Hampshire, who responded so positively to our bold expansion and made our dream of becoming a better bookstore a reality. Thank you!
