It’s FAFSA time!
The new 2024−25 FAFSA Form is now available. We recommend that all students fill out the FAFSA every year, even if they don’t think they will be eligible for funds. This year's application has been streamlined by reducing the number of questions and making it easier to transfer tax information directly from the IRS. Please note that due to the delay in this year’s FAFSA application availability, current students should expect their financial aid packages to arrive a little later compared with previous years. Loyola’s Office of Financial Aid is here to support you through this process and answer any questions. Please reach our office by calling 504-865-3231, emailing us at finaid@loyno.edu, or scheduling an appointment.

Emma Grace Condon is a sophomore majoring in molecular biology with a minor in Christian religion. A Louisiana native, she chose Loyola because it’s close enough to home but far enough that she could meet new people and gain new experiences. She was also drawn to Loyola’s mission to develop students in body, mind, and spirit. Emma Grace shares her story below.
“I’m a deeply spiritual person so I knew I wanted to pick a school that had a lot to offer when it comes to religion."
One of her favorite experiences on campus so far has been joining an Ignatian Life Community. These are small groups of students who engage in structured, facilitated meetings weekly to share their growth in Ignatian spirituality, which emphasizes discerning and sharing one’s gifts, finding God in all things, and deepening one’s passion for justice.
"Ignatian Life Communities have given me a close bond with other students that I would not have met otherwise! Between our weekly ILC group meetings and my time spent with other ILC facilitators, I can confidently say that ILCs have given me lasting friendships with amazing people.”
Emma Grace recommends ILCs for any student who is curious about spirituality. Students can join a "general ILC" or a "classroom cohort" composed of students in the same class—a great opportunity to dive deeply into subject matter with classmates in the context of Ignatian spirituality.
“We have a variety of different groups, including a Spanish-speaking group, an LGBTQ+ group, and a secular group! Even if you’re just looking to meet new people on campus, I would definitely recommend checking out ILCs.”
For individual questions about ILCs, please email University Minister for Retreats and Faith Communities Hunter Darrouzet.

January Spiritual Reflection: Mardi Gras
A Message from University Chaplain Thomas Ryan, Ph.D.
At its worst, Mardi Gras in New Orleans is marked by destructive excess (think of its carbon footprint!) and vestiges of segregation.
At its best, it, rather than Lent, may better reflect heaven. Think about heaven. For Christianity, it is, in some mysterious way, a sharing in God’s very life—a life abundant and overflowing with love. And this happens in community with others and even with creation (see Romans 8:21).
Now, think about streets. They are normally dangerous, polluting, and, historically in New Orleans, a source of economic and ethnic division. At Mardi Gras, they are transformed. They gather people who would never otherwise cross paths to feast, dance, and play together.
Lent is a long, annual reminder to consider how my practices distance me and others from God and how I might work with others to help all people and all creation to experience, “on earth as it is in heaven,” the foretaste of heavenly flourishing that Mardi Gras can hint at.
