Matty Extends Boston Marathon Run

Hey, and speaking of longevity... Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Boston proudly announces that market icon Matt Siegel, the "Matty" portion of Matty In The Morning on WXKS (Kiss 108) has extended his contract through 2018. Siegel has been a Boston radio staple for well over 30 years, and has been with Kiss since 1981. [Ed. note: I used to listen to Matty on the late, great WBCN/Boston in the late '70s, before he transitioned over to Kiss 108]. "After having both competed against Matty and been on the same team, I know what a great personality and asset Matty is to Kiss 108," said Alan Chartrand, Market President of CCM+E Boston. "He's an unbelievable talent and I'm very happy that Matt will continue to entertain Kiss 108 listeners in Boston for many years to come."
Bravely leaping aboard this rapidly accelerating Matty love train, Clear Channel Boston VP of Programming Dylan Sprague remarked, "Matty has been at the center of Kiss 108's success for more than 30 years and his ability to entertain and connect with Boston radio listeners is unmatched. Mornings in Boston simply wouldn't be the same without Matty on Kiss 108. I'm thrilled he is extending his run." CCM+E EVP of Operations Tom McConnell seconds that emotion, adding, "Matty is a true Boston radio legend and we are excited to extend our relationship with him." Last, but certainly not least, the man of the hour speaks, as Siegel stated, simply, "My wonderful love story with the city of Boston continues."
Susan Groves has departed her post as OM of Clear Channel's six-station cluster in Salisbury-Ocean City, MD. Regional Market Manager Chris Walus confirmed Groves' departure and tells RAMP that Josh Wolff, PD of Country WWFG (Froggy 99.9) and AC WQHQ (Q105) is now serving as Acting Operations Manager. Before landing in Ocean City in June of last year, Groves (pictured) spent several productive years as OM for Mid-West Family's cluster in Springfield, IL -- Active Rock WQLZ, Triple A WLCE (Alice @ 97.7), AC WNNS and News-Talk WMAY-AM. Her previous programming experience includes a stint as OM of Triad/Adventure Radio's seven-station cluster in Hilton Head/Savannah, PD of WRAX & WZRR/Birmingham, AL, and seven years with Clear Channel as an OM in Albany, NY and Columbia, SC. She can be reached at groves1@gmail.com.
Crash Poteet has exited his PD position at Journal Broadcast Group Country KVOO/Tulsa after a two-year run. RAMP has learned that Journal Tulsa OM Jules Riley has assumed programming control of KVOO going forward. Prior to joining Journal in February of 2012, Poteet was MD/morning personality on Tyler Media's KJKE (93.3 Jake FM)/Oklahoma City. His previous programming stops include KSCS/Dallas.

Another Pro On The Loose

Clear Channel Hot AC WISX (Mix 106.1)/Philadelphia has parted ways with APD/MD/morning co-host Logan after eight years. His former AM co-host Nicole is flying solo in the wake-up shift in the interim, and CCM+E Philadelphia VP of Programming Brian Check tells RAMP that a replacement for Logan will be announced next week. Señor Logan is a 14-year Clear Channel vet who joined what was then Rhythmic AC My 106.1 as MD/afternoon dude in September of 2006. He was elevated to the morning show in November of 2007, following the demise of the late Wake Up with Whoopi. He previously worked at KDMX/Dallas and spent five years in afternoons right across the hall at Top 40 sister WIOQ (Q102)/Philadelphia. Logan also did a stretch in Hartford at WKSS and WTIC-FM, and he's also known and loved for his colorful run (as "Freddy Vedder") at Z100/New York
Looking ahead, Logan says, "I'm looking for programming/on-air work in Hot AC, AC, Country or Classic Hits." He continues, "I've reinvented myself many times before and I look forward to my next challenge." Logan's demos, references, and resume can be accessed online at loganradioshow.com and he can be easily reached via the magic of email at loganmixphilly@gmail.com.

Premiere Placement

• We extend our best wishes to a friend of many in our industry, Julie Talbott, President of Premiere Networks, who will soon be the recipient of a special honor. Clear Channel Networks President Darren Davis laid out the whole scoop in a staff memo, saying, "The editorial board of Talkers has named Premiere Networks President Julie Talbott as the 2014 recipient of the Judy Jarvis Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Talk Radio Industry by a Woman. The honor, also known as 'Woman of the Year' will be presented to Talbott by last year's recipient, Heather Cohen, EVP of The Weiss Agency, at the forthcoming Talkers New York 2014 conference on Friday, June 20. Way to go, Julie!" As if that wasn't enough good news for one sitting, RAMP also learned that Ms. Talbott just inked a new, long-term contract extension with Premiere!
• Premiere Networks just announced an exclusive three-hour Memorial Day radio special, TheBlaze Radio Network's Freedom: Love It or Lose It, featuring the hosts, writers and editors of TheBlaze and TheBlaze.com, including Doc Thompson, Buck Sexton, Jay Severin and others. From personal stories to conversations about the meaning of the holiday, listeners will be treated to a special tribute to those who fought and gave their lives to defend our freedom, and the loved ones who support them. TheBlaze Radio Network's Freedom: Love It or Lose It is available for News-Talk stations to air from May 24-26, 2014. Interested stations should contact Premiere Networks' Affiliate Relations department at 818-377-5300.

CCB Welcomes Cape Crusader

Cape Cod Broadcasting (yes, the one on Cape Cod) has hired 18-year market vet Cat Wilson as Promotion Manager for the cluster -- Hot AC WQRC, Country WKPE (Cape Country 104), Classical WFCC and AC WOCN (Ocean 104.7) as well as the company's six websites, which include CapeCod.com. The move marks a welcome radio return for Wilson, who segues from the Marketing Manager post at Cape Cod Harley-Davidson. As a special bonus, Ms. Wilson will also bring her long-running and popular local music show, The Cheap Seats to Ocean 104.7 every Sunday night at 8pm, starting May 4. The Cheap Seats was most recently heard on crosstown WCIB (Cool 102). She will also host another regular show on Ocean 104.7, Crafted For The Cape, celebrating singer-songwriters from the '70s and '80s and the current artists that were inspired by them. PD Jerry McKenna said of Wilson, "Cat brings another local voice to our line-up, and her deep knowledge of the format artists and their music will add dimension to this unique format."
Back in the day, Wilson was Promotion Manager and a jock for Qantum, and she used to be MD of WKPE back when it was owned by Charles River Broadcasting. Cape Cod Broadcasting GM Bev Tilden said, "We are excited to add Cat to our team. Cat is a multi-talented individual and with our plans to expand CCB marketing and events, she brings additional Cape-based experience and resources to our group."

In Other News...

• CBS Top 40 WDZH (98.7 AMP Radio)/Detroit celebrates the 10th show in its ongoing AMP Live concert series -- AMP Live 2014 stars Ed Sheeran, Austin Mahone, Icona Pop, Little Mix and Timeflies and it's happening Thursday, June 12 at Meadow Brook Music Festival in Rochester Hills, MI. "We are very excited about this year's AMP Live line up," said Debbie Kenyon, SVP/Market Manager of CBS Radio Detroit. "The AMP Live concert series, which includes our Christmas show, Kringle Jingle, have become highly anticipated annual events. The station starts to receive inquires about the show announcements months in advance. One of the great things about the shows is that listeners have started to request artists and we take those requests seriously, often using them to build the show line-ups."
• Promo vet Michael Stevens is ready for his next record label opportunity. Stevens, (pictured with a younger Debbie Gibson) is best known for his 18-year stint as a Regional Promotion Manager with Atlantic Records until 2004. Since then, he's been operating his own state-of-the-art recording facility in Houston fulltime. "I've enjoyed running Michael Stevens Productions since leaving Atlantic, but the time is right for returning to the profession that I do best -- music promotion!" said Stevens, whose radio resume also includes stops at WKNR and WRIF/Detroit, KSFX/San Francisco, WAPP/New York and KSRR/Houston. Fun Fact: Stevens' big brother is New York radio treasure Pat St. John! How cool is that? Mr. Stevens is ready to have a meaningful conversation with you and can be reached at 713-516-2940 or mspromoguy@yahoo.com.

Apple A Day Keeps Cancer At Bay

Earlier this month, WPOI (Hot 101.5)/Tampa morning personality Jayde Donovan kicked off her annual "Apple A Day" campaign, which will give away free iPads to local kids who are fighting cancer. Donovan (pictured) originally launched her "Apple-A-Day" program a few years ago to honor the memory of her close friend Brittany, who passed away in June of 2010. Last year, Jayde awarded 22 iPads to area children who were battling pediatric cancer.
Here's how you can help this year -- visit Hot1015tampabay.com and purchase a "Virtual Apple" for $1... the fine folks at Mercedes-Benz of Tampa have agreed to match every donation. Every weekday during the month of May, Jayde will award another pediatric cancer patient with their very own iPad! Then, on June 7, each winning child and their family will be honored at a reception at the Hot 101.5 studios and awarded their new iPad. "Kids want to be outside playing with their friends, not in the hospital for weeks on end," said Donovan. "Cancer takes away their freedom and can make a child feel lonely and isolated. The gift of an iPad means reconnecting these kids to a world they temporarily can't be a part of. I've seen firsthand how this one small gesture can make a huge impact in a child's life. Suddenly they're in touch with friends and family, using FaceTime with their teachers, and they're smiling again."

RAMP Grip N' Grin

Emerging artist Roxanna recently performed at Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles to officially announce the July 8 release of her debut album, Exotica. Radio and media folks attended the show, during which Roxanna performed a mix of original songs and some memorable covers, like Lionel Richie's "Hello," and Steve Resnik's personal favorite, Roxanna's version of The Hollies' "The Air That I Breathe." She also sang several original songs, including the single, "Close Your Eyes" as well as "Only You," "Unforgotten" and the title track of the album. Another highlight of the evening was the appearance of special guest Jon Secada, who performed three songs with Roxanna, much to the surprise and delight of the crowd. The entire show was recorded for TV broadcast at a later date.
Jeff McClusky & Associate is quarterbacking the radio promotion of "Close Your Eyes" at Mainstream AC, while Gorov Music Marketing is doing the same on the Jazz side with Roxanna's cover of "Hello." Pictured, during the relaxing post-show afterglow, from left, JMA's Rick Stone, Roxanna and RAMP's Steve Resnik. To learn more about this talented artist, visit roxannamusic.com.
