Jackson Michelson's new song, "Stay Over," touches on something most of us have experienced, even if we don't want to admit it. The song describes a relationship that's just never going to quite work out — but that doesn't mean there won't be some lonely nights where you still try to give it one more shot.

The mid-tempo song presents a lush sonic backdrop augmented by an insistent beat as Michelson tells his story of a pair of former lovers who just can't resist the pull of one more night together. She's been out drinking with her friends, he takes her call, and though they try to pretend otherwise, both of them know what's going to happen next.

"I know you're gonna show up at my door, throw your heels on my floor / And you'll be saying maybe you should stay over / I know we'll be kissing at the stairs, I'll be messing with your hair / Fall asleep with your head on my shoulder / We can't let it go even though we now / This ain't gonna help us get closure / We'll say the same goodbye, swearing it's the last time / But no matter how we try, baby / We can never stay over," Michelson sings in the chorus.

"'Stay Over' is about an on-again, off-again relationship filled with passion," Michelson tells us. "Sometimes the relationship is meant to be, but the timing just isn’t right. I wanted to write a song from that vulnerable point of view."

Michelson grew up in Corvallis, Ore., going to school and working on the farm from an early age. He hit the road when his brother, Paul Wright, landed a record deal as a Christian artist, selling merchandise at his gigs, an experience that fired up is own passion for music. He's built his career through hard touring and exposure at SiriusXM for songs including "The Good Life."
