We believe in supporting the communities we call home and are incredibly grateful to our associates on the ground serving those impacted by Hurricane Ian. Together, Walmart, Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation have committed up to $6 million to support recovery and relief efforts. This support will help provide essential supplies and grants to organizations providing relief.

We’ll continue to update this page with more information as it becomes available.

Two weeks after Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida, it’s clear the areas impacted face a long road to recovery as we learn more about the extent of the damage and relief efforts continue.

Many of our customers, members and associates saw significant damage to their homes and have been without power and basic needs. Through it all, our associates have come together to serve each other and their neighbors in need.

Some associates have come from across the country to help. Just days after the storm passed, Walmart drivers brought the Mobile Relief Kitchen to the area. Each day, these associates have been cooking and serving meals to the community in store parking lots thanks to donations from Tyson Foods and Bimbo Bakeries.

Everything about Walmart is to take care of the customer. This is just one of the facets that we have. Walmart fills the needs of communities – not only when times are good, but especially when times are bad.

Our truck drivers have also delivered over 30 truckloads of donations of essential resources such as water, ice and supplies. These items, along with food, shower and laundry services, including P&G’s Tide Loads of Hope, have been made available for associates and the community across our stores and clubs in the area.

To date, our stores and clubs have hosted more than 15 giveaway events. We are grateful to nonprofit partners such as Cajun Navy, Salvation Army and United Way of Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties that have worked alongside our associates to help get resources to people in need.

Part of the initial $6 million commitment from Walmart, Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation has supported nonprofits leading efforts to feed and shelter people, clean up debris and provide relief to underserved communities, including:

  • Cajun Navy – Providing food and essential supplies to people through Cajun Navy SAFE Camps.
  • CORE – Focusing relief efforts on low-income and mobile home communities, including several affected neighborhoods with large elderly, immigrant, Black, Latino and unhoused populations.
  • Operation BBQ Relief – Preparing and distributing meals to people impacted and those who have joined relief efforts.
  • Salvation Army – Coordinating with national and local emergency management officials and volunteers to prepare food for Hurricane Ian survivors.
  • SBP – Helping people access resources and funding for recovery and regranting through its SHARE Fund to support community organizations leading cleanup efforts.
  • The Smile Trust – Providing relief services and conducting wellness checks in underserved communities in Southwest Florida.
  • Volunteer Florida Foundation – Supporting response and recovery activities as the State of Florida’s official private fund established to provide financial assistance to communities.

As part of our commitment, we offered to maximize contributions from our customers and members by matching their donations at our stores and clubs to the American Red Cross 1:1, up to $2.5 million. Thanks to their generous support, together we raised over $10 million to support hurricane relief efforts.

While recovery continues, we will continue to be here for our associates, customers, members and their families.

Hurricane Ian relief and recovery efforts continue this week. Nonprofit partners are using many of our store parking lots in the impacted areas in Florida to distribute water, food and other resources. We continue working with local leaders and nonprofits to use our physical presence in the community to offer much needed resources to our neighbors who were impacted.

Thanks to our customers and members who have donated in stores and clubs since Friday, Sept. 30, we reached our 1:1 match of $2.5 million in just three days. This means that together, we raised $5 million to support the American Red Cross’ response to Hurricane Ian and other recent hurricanes and natural disasters in 2022. Customers and members can continue donating in stores and clubs through Oct. 10.

The communities we serve in Florida are beginning to activate response and recovery efforts after Hurricane Ian. We are grateful for the response effort underway including associates working alongside state leaders and first responders. Our Walmart Health centers in Tampa and Orlando are offering complimentary sick or injury exams. For more information about healthcare, supplies, food, or other services available see below.

As our stores in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina are now being impacted, we're standing by to support those communities.

Many of our associates, customers and members in the communities we serve across Florida are feeling the devastating effects of Hurricane Ian. Our thoughts are with those impacted and we are moving quickly to help.

Walmart, Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation are committing up to $6 million to recovery and relief efforts. This support will include donations of essential supplies and grants to organizations providing relief on the ground. Our customers, members and associates are the most generous people we know. So as part of this commitment, we will help maximize their impact by matching contributions 1:1 when they donate at our registers (up to $2.5 million) or through our associate giving program.

Walmart associates are also working side-by-side with state leaders and first responders, mobilizing to bring additional services to impacted communities. We will continue looking for ways to help our neighbors in Florida and will share updates here.
