About the Vanderbilt Woman's Club Stapleton/Weaver Scholarship

The Vanderbilt Woman's Club Stapleton/Weaver Scholarship was established in 2007 to provide financial support to a deserving undergraduate student based on academics, citizenship and financial need. The scholarship honors Dr. Ada Bell Stapleton, who was Professor of English and the first Dean of Women and Dr. Blanche Henry Weaver who served as Assistant Professor of History, Director of the Master of Arts in Teaching Program, Dean of Women and Assistant Dean of the Graduate School.

The scholarship is administered by the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships through their normal aid award process.  Preference in awarding the scholarship is given to an incoming freshman with continued support throughout the student's time at Vanderbilt, as deemed qualified.

We are proud to announce our newest Stapleton/Weaver scholarship recipient:

Ana is from Sewickley, PA and graduated from North Allegheny Senior High School. During her 10
th grade year, she founded the Sweets for Souls Baking Club and served as President. The purpose of the club was to gather high schoolers to spread positivity by baking and donating sweets to elderly, youth, and homeless. She organized the club to bake 4,665 sweets to donate to frontline healthcare workers as a thank you for their service during the pandemic. Ana also served as the President and Lieutenant Governor of the Pennsylvania Key Club. Her love for the community continued to show through her mission trip to Costa Rica for Soles4Souls , volunteer work with North Allegheny Project Water, and teaching middle schoolers how to grow their faith as a small group leader at Saints John and Paul Catholic Church. In addition to her commitment to community service, Ana served as the Treasurer, Recording Secretary, and President of Student Council and competed in speech/debate and DECA ( Distributive Education Clubs of America ). She was a violinist in her high school orchestra and plans to be a business executive.

I appreciate the Vanderbilt Woman's Club immensely for providing me with this scholarship. It has been extremely useful in helping cover my tuition cost, in addition to giving me a supportive group that I know I can rely on throughout my college experience. Most importantly, it swayed me into coming to Vanderbilt in the first place!

In my short time at Vanderbilt, I have found a passion for learning the French language and about francophone culture in general. I have met incredible professors who have traveled the world, writing French literature and following famous French authors. I feel incredibly honored to be able to learn from their experiences and build meaningful connections with them. Without the Vanderbilt Woman's Club, I would be completely detached from these opportunities!

Thank you times a million!
Ana Key

I am beyond grateful to have the amazing support of the Vanderbilt Women’s Club throughout my years at Vanderbilt, and I cannot thank VWC and our wonderful contributors enough that have made my time at Vanderbilt accessible, possible, and so fulfilling. My undergraduate journey would not be the same without VWC's help: this scholarship has provided me with not only additional financial support, but also emotional support from this positive, caring, and impactful community of women. I am so lucky to call Vanderbilt home, and I have had an amazing experience here challenging myself, making unforgettable memories, building meaningful connections, and exploring Nashville. Each year,
I have grown so much at both the academic and personal level.
Thank you!
