Dear resident,

Facilities Management (FM) has been working closely with the Coronavirus Taskforce and the Cononavirus Crisis Management Team (CCMT) to evaluate all the services being provided by our service contractors at KAUST.  Following recent recommendations of social distancing, FM will now be running reduced waste management collection and city cleaning services effective March 17, 2020 until further notice.

Effective Tuesday, March 17, the waste management service will be shifting to a one bin collection service. You are kindly advised to use only the open bin for all your household trash. The remaining two bins have been emptied, washed and secured. Also, note the new collection frequency is limited to two collections weekly only.

In addition to the above, the community will expect to see all service provider staff wearing gloves and face mask while providing essential waste management collection and city cleaning services.

We ask all community members for their patience and understanding during this time. Thank you.

Yours sincerely,
Facilities Management

  1. Thank you for your incredible efforts, so many things you have to think of!
With regards to items to be recycled, do we start putting them in a trash bag now or continue keeping them un-bagged in the one bin for all?

  2. So what is happening to recycling? Do you stop recycling at Kaust? Should people still separate the trash or not? Why these questions are nor addressed in the announcement?

    • On my side I will keep all dry and clean recyclables separate in my garage until pickup of the blue bin resumes.. I just can’t throw away recyclables, it does not make sense to me.

  3. Hi, Thanks for your kind efforts. In this announcement it is mentioned: “You are kindly advised to use only the open bin for all your household trash”. Does this mean we can put all household trash — organic, waste/non-recyclable, and recyclable in the same bin? Please clarify. Thank you.

Please note: Of course I will always segregate waste in to different categories, even if we have to put them all in the same bin.
