Mellon Humanities Pathways Program


Humanities Pathways is a faculty-driven joint initiative between Oxford College and Emory College of Arts and Sciences.

Undergraduate Studies in the Humanities Lead to High Demand Skills In Today’s Job Market.

The Mellon Humanities Pathways program highlights how undergraduate studies in the humanities can lead to fulfilling career pursuits across a wide variety of fields from business and technical fields to finance and healthcare.

The program is a shared endeavor between Emory College of Arts and Science and Oxford College. The generous gift of $1.25 million will fund four initiatives over the course of three years to demonstrate the value of the humanities through diverse pathways to meaningful careers.

Humanities at Work

A celebration of the Humanities at Emory took place on the Atlanta and Oxford campuses this past semester to help students take their first steps toward integrating their passion for the humanities with their intellectual pursuits and career goals. View the list of activities on the Atlanta campus.

The Humanities at Work event was designed for students, parents, and alumni to

  • Engage at the powerful intersection between humanities studies and professional pursuits.
  • Learn about the breadth and depth of the humanities at Emory.
  • Meet representatives from 14 humanities departments at Emory
  • Raise awareness of humanities’ power to transcend industry or careers and to offer effective interdisciplinary skills in high demand for various careers.
  • Activate alumni networks through open, honest discussions with humanities alumni who translated their education to a wide variety of fields.
  • Connect with Career Center representatives to discuss your skills, abilities and career goals.
  • Discover the Pathways Center — a new Emory initiative to help connect you to your post-graduation goals, whatever they may be.

Emory students and faculty in the Humanities are always seeking opportunities to explore and engage with the rich collection of art, literature, philosophy, culture and history that are at the heart of the human expression and experience. In this space we seek to shine a spotlight on some of their work and discoveries connected to the Mellon Humanities Pathways grant.

A New Way to Connect

COVID-19 and the resulting quarantine forced all of us to rethink how we accomplish tasks and how we connect with one another. The Melon Humanities Pathways Alumni Panels represent a new way to connect current humanities students with alumni so they can share experiences across times zones and distances great and small.
