1.  Applying to graduate is different than registering to attend Commencement — Please complete both steps!

We recommend that students submit an application for graduation during the semester prior to when their degree will be complete. If you haven't yet, we invite you to apply on the registrar’s website.

Students who have applied to graduate will receive an email invitation with a link to register to attend the Commencement ceremony. Register before March 27 to ensure you have a seat!

2. Order your cap and gown by April 11!

The last day to order your cap and gown online will be April 11. Visit the Laker Store website for more details.

3. Don't miss out on attending Toast!

Join President Mantella and GVSU Alumni Relations on April 22 for Toast — your official welcome into the Laker alumni family! Enjoy desserts, drinks, and take home a commemorative champagne flute to mark this special milestone.

RSVP and let's toast!

4.  Make a plan with your guests in advance!

Tickets:

Tickets are not required! All seating is general admission. There will be dedicated ADA seating available.

Parking:
Check out the parking information on the Commencement website, and be sure to share it with your guests. Scope out drop-off locations (we recommend using Ottawa Ave.), accessible parking info, and nearby parking ramps. Parking ramp pricing info and accepted forms of payment can be found on the Commencement parking page.

The Ceremony:

...is anticipated to be no longer than 2 hours. Doors open 90 minutes prior to the ceremony start time. Graduates — Please arrive at least 1 hour prior to your ceremony start time!

After the ceremony:

Family and friends should establish a predetermined location outside of the Van Andel Arena to meet with their graduate following the ceremony. (There will be no opportunity for families to meet up with their graduates indoors.) Also allow time for exiting and meeting up with your guests after the ceremony, when considering dinner or celebration plans!
