I&E Associates Program

The Division of Inclusion and Equity at Grand Valley State University will re-launch the Inclusion & Equity Associates Program. In its new iteration, this program seeks to uplift and represent the least represented voices within our community, promoting a sense of belonging, cultivating transparency and accountability, and fostering a culture of educational equity. By ensuring the voices of the least represented communities are heard and valued, the Inclusion & Equity Associates Program aims to transform GVSU into a national model for equity, inclusion, and social justice.

Selected by the Vice President for Inclusion and Equity in collaboration with the specific community they will serve, the Associates are appointed for one year (Winter 2024 through Fall 2024). This appointment comes with a course release or an overload/additional pay stipend for an estimated 10 hours of work per week. Each Associate is asked to maintain and cultivate strong relationships with colleagues and other entities that provide institutional support to the community (e.g. Social Justice Centers, Faculty/Staff Affinity groups).

The Associates report directly to the Vice President for Inclusion and Equity and the President, working closely with members of the Senior Leadership Team. The Associates collaborate with an advisory group to advance and identify opportunities for enhancing the sense of belonging within the community. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to, improving recruitment and retention strategies for underrepresented groups. They also serve on the Activation and Accountability Leadership Team (AALT).

The Division is seeking two associates with particular expertise and focus on the following communities: (1) Transgender and Non-Binary (TGNB); and (2) Native American and Indigenous for Winter 2024, Summer 2024, and Fall 2024. Faculty and staff with direct experience in these communities are encouraged to submit a one-page letter of interest expanding on opportunities within the community and how you will seek to contribute and a current CV/resume to [email protected].

Other Benefits of the Associateship

  1. Financial Support: In consultation with the Vice President for Inclusion and Equity, the Associate will be appropriately funded to test/pilot and advance key opportunities.
  2. Individual Professional Development: The program supports focused professional development and/or training for each Associate, determined in consultation with the president and senior leadership team. The experience intends to advance individual skills and knowledge or provide unique new experiences for the associate.
  3. Cohort Engagement: The I&E Associates will engage regularly with the Presidential Fellows cohort to share insights, strategies, and challenges and receive support.
