About this event

The Centre for Disability Research and Policy (CDRP), Faculty of Medicine and Health impact centre, in collaboration with the Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP), presents the first University-wide forum on Lived-Experience-Led Research.

The University of Sydney has committed to the inclusion of people with disability via its Disability Inclusion Action Plan and disability research is a key focus of this plan. Applying the motto “nothing about us without us”, collaborating with people with lived experience of the topics of our research is an essential component for ensuring the research we conduct at the University of Sydney is relevant. The University of Sydney aims to provide leadership via new approaches to lived experience-led research.

This event is a call to action for academics and staff members to further lived experience-led research at the University and address the lack of opportunities for academics, staff, and students with lived experience of disability in educational and research institutions.

Our keynote speaker, Ellen Fraser-Barbour, Policy and Research Leader at JFA Purple Orange, early career researcher at Flinders University in Disability and Community Inclusion, and Member of the National Disability Research Partnership Working Party, will share her own experience as a researcher with deafblindness, and her passion about supporting the voice of people with disability and strongly advocating to government and community for change. We will also hear from those conducting lived-experience-led and collaborative research across the University of Sydney

This forum will provide a unique platform to explore existing lived-experience-led research projects across disciplines, highlighting how lived-expertise enhances research quality, identify gaps in existing research, and define actionable steps towards promoting lived-experience-led research within the University of Sydney.
