About this event

Join us for afternoon tea with Peter Lightbody from FCW Lawyers who will answer some commonly asked by academics who are in the process of setting up a new business to commercialise their research.

This interactive session will be a short presentation with the majority of the time reserved for you to discuss your questions and receive specific guidance.

The focus of this workshop is to understand the structure and formalities of setting up a company including:

• How to manage business relationships between co-founders at an early stage

• What are the different types of business structures?

• What does it mean to incorporate a company and what are the pros and cons?

• Where should you incorporate your company?

• When is the right time to register a company?

• What are the risks of having a company and how can you manage those risks?

• How do the roles in a company differ (e.g. founder, director, shareholder, investor)?

• What are the duties of a director (and how not to panic about them)?
